The answer to my search. Have been searching, since I came to the realization that MSG is so harmful. It is used in most dishes in Latin homes, however, most don't know that Goya's #1 ingredient is MSG (most of the packet) and most are oblivious of how harmful it is. Thanks so much!

Thanks for the smoked paprika sub, I was guessing that, or maybe just chili powder. Annatto is extremely easy to find where I live, but it also triggers my Crohn's. Also love the lower sodium for DH's heart disease. Hugs!

I think there may have been an error, normally sazón wouldn't have cilantro, it would have culantro. Although they are similar words they're different plants; cilantro is the foliage of the plant that bears coriander, and culantro is the same plant as recao. Although it's possible that this is just an unusual recipe, but aside from that it's very normal. Also MSG is normally a key ingredient and so is NaCL, the other common type of salt which I think is the one you were referring to when you say you'd add it later. If you want to avoid sodium, then the sazón should generally be mixed with tomato paste or another source of glutamic acid in order to achieve the same flavor.

Most Puerto Rican foods have sazón. They use it along with adobo more than anyone.
@IncubusOfDeath5 жыл бұрын
It can be used for all meats, rice, beans, etc. It gives food coloring, as well as flavor. Us Puerto Ricans, use it in mostly, every dish, accompanied with a dash of "Goya Adobo" (Red Cap). I say a dash, because it contains salt, and using too much can make your dish too salty. Here's a simple recipe, for baked potatoes that I make all the time home, a recipe given to me by my mother. Wash, and cut your potatoes lengthwise, keeping the skin on them. Keeping the sliced potato together, now cut across, making half inch thick potato wedges. Use as many potatoes as needed. Then, take a baking pan, and cover it with aluminum foil, and drizzle the pan with extra virgin olive oil, lay your potatoes on the pan, and spread them out, it's ok if some overlap. Sprinkle all the potatoes, lightly, with Adobo, Black Pepper, Sazon, and sprinkle some Dried Rosemary over all the potatoes. Then, drizzle all the potaoes, some more, with the Olive Oil. Preheat your oven, to about 350 degrees fahrenheit, place potatoes in the oven uncovered, and bake until golden brown, making sure to check on them often. Goes great with chicken, pork, and even steak and onions.

But I would suggest not adding the cilantro, for this recipe, as the potatoes are sprinkled with dry Rosemary.

Hi Tess, just a suggestion. If you type in Coriander from English to Spanish, "Cilantro" pops up. So you are basically adding Cilantro twice, in the recipe, one ground which is more potent, and the dried up version. 😊👍

coriander is the cilantro seeds grinded, cilantro is the plant. so they are both different in taste.
