Visit our booth at this year's BC Home + Garden Show (March 2022). We will have these "Seed Bomb Kits" available, featuring wildflower seeds by West Coast Seeds! You can toss these seed bombs somewhere that you think needs some flowers. They're perfect to pack on a hike, rainy day or neighbourhood walk. With Earth Day just around the corner, these are a great way to renature in your community.
Supplies included:
2 pieces of construction paper
Cheesecloth
Rubber Band
Seeds
Potting Soil
Tools needed:
Water (1-2 cups)
Bowl
Blender
Jar, cup or glass
Cookie sheet
Instructions:
1. Start by ripping up paper into small pieces
2. Place ripped up pieces of paper in a bowl
3. Pour water over the pieces of paper in the bowl to cover them
4. Add paper and water to the blender
5. Blend paper and water together
6. Pour the mixture back into the bowl
7. Get a separate jar and a piece of cheese cloth to cover the opening of the jar
8. Place the cheese cloth over the top of the jar, cup, or glass and secure with a rubber band
9. Use approximately 2 tbsp of some of the paper and water mixture squish it on top of the cheesecloth
10. Add 1 tsp of potting soil and a pinch of seeds on top of paper and water mixture on cheesecloth
11. Add more of the paper and water mixture on top of the soil and seeds
12. Gather your mixture and form a ball shape in the cheesecloth and squeeze out excess water
13. Let the bombs sit for at least 24 hours on a cookie sheet to dry
14. Go for a hike and throw your bomb!!
Thank you to CBC Kids for the inspiration on this DIY!

@@batatafrita2783 well... the paper surely doesn't match the ground 😂 I think it's gonna be alright. You really don't need much. Marble/bead sized is enough. If you're not using seeds from native plants to your region, don't do this; you'll cause more harm than good introducing non-native/invasive species into new areas. Removing garden escapees from parkland is hard enough w/o people mindlessly adding to the problem thinking they're being helpful. Instead learn some of your native plants that are good for pollinators/edible/medicinal/threatened & start w/ those.

Just an all around bad comment. As someone who’s actually worked in this industry woke stuff like this makes me cringe. 99% of all plants grown and sold are non native and that’s totally okay because the agricultural department regulates what plants can/cant be sold/grown. @zeearts9484
@zeearts9484 2 жыл бұрын
@@yosachaiko9969 Wow! First of all, those activities sound so fun! Second of all: It isn't entirely homemade, it's just recycled paper. And I'm sorry that the comment turned out so long, I got too excited 😅.. I used random used up and useless pieces of paper I found in my house (yes, you can use paper sheets with ink on them). You have to cut them up into smaller pieces of paper, let them sit in water, then mix them with either a machine or manually (with the water). You basically have to make a sludge, and then pour it into a big container of water (the amount of sludge you pour into the container at a time depends on how thick you want your paper sheets to be.). Then you use something called a deckle, which is two wooden frames, one with a net and another without one. You carefully dip the deckle in the tub of water, then take it out and place it on a piece of cloth, which you then hang up on a clothing line or just leave there to dry. And when it dries, that's when you have your sheet of paper! (Yes, it sounds like a lot of work for one sheet of paper, and that's cause it is, but at least it's fun :D!) If you want toned paper, you can pour in your mix some sort of dye, preferably not in the tub of water itself, and before you mix the thing. And I say that cause when I did that my sheets turned out with inconsistent coloring ,-, Important things to note are: Not to pour the remaining water from the tub down your sink cause it can clog up the sewage system! And if it still has extra sludge in it to try and save it with a strainer. Don't use a mixer that is also used for mixing edible things. If you use it to make a smoothie after mixing the paper sludge there's a risk of poisoning!!! Also, because I couldn't, and still haven't been able to find somewhere to buy a deckle, I made my own using two picture frames and a net, but I did it wrong and it got messy so I won't share how I did that (٥↼_↼)

For this application i'd sprout and root a whole tray of seeds then plant them where the bomb would've been. It's a lot of extra steps instead of using a drier porous binder that'll break away
