Nice, I am glad to see someone still uses insulation, except you just stuffed it in the box in the back, one of the main reasons for insulation is to cause the sound to move in ONLY one direction (which should almost always be parallel to the speaker resonance) so the best way to stuff a box is to put the insulation around the speaker / around the edges of the box, all you did is cause the sound to be muffled front to back and echo like crazy side to side. p.s. a little insulation should go behind the speaker magnet, but it should be at least twice the density and much smaller (like close to the diameter of the speaker) Also, home speakers are mostly 8 ohm and desktop speakers are 4 ohm, so if you hook up a 4 ohm speaker to an 8 ohm amplifier eventually the speaker voice coil wire will short out and then your amp will too, conversely, if you use an 8 ohm speaker on a 4 ohm amplifier, your speakers will be fine, but your amp will blow. remember you get about twice the volume of a 4 ohm speaker hooked up with an 8 ohm amp and half the volume out of 8 ohm speaker hooked up to a 4 ohm amp. Obviously if you are going for a high-powered amplifier who want high resistance speakers, like 8 or even 16 ( I have two!) anyway, working at Harmon and Kardon for years and also being taught my my uncle, I have some helpful knowledge about speakers, amps and the dynamics of sound due to the many system I have built. my first sub-woofer was a 15" long throw dual voice coil speaker with an sealed box I built out of one inch particle board; not ported (bass-reflection technology) , not acoustic (only running 80 watts) but sealed up, please dont ever make a band-pass box unless you know your porting, have a 1 or 2 ohm speaker load and a very small out put of wattage, (and in a small room).

@Grommet2007
@Grommet2007 4 жыл бұрын
Nice work, certainly better than I can ever do in my "workshop" :-). Hopefully rear-mounting the woofers that way doesn't throw the frequency response around the x-over region out of whack because of the increased z-offset from the tweeter. How are you going to measure the results? REW and a good mike?
@chrclmnky
@chrclmnky 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback, Brian. Will just do the testing by the most traditional tool available, the human ears.
@Grommet2007
@Grommet2007 4 жыл бұрын
@@chrclmnky Ears are absolutely the worst tools to use for absolute testing. Hell, your hearing is different at different times during the day, and dependent upon how old you are, what you were listening to before, etc. For determining relative differences between two sound sources they're ok for that job, but they're horrible at quantifying specifically what's wrong with a particular build, or what could be done to correct it. REW software is free, a good USB mic can be got for less than $100, and the combo run on a PC is all you really need for quantifying what your ears might be trying to tell you about your build.
@chrclmnky
@chrclmnky 4 жыл бұрын
@@Grommet2007 I am planning to get a Dayton Audio OmniMic V2 in the future if I've save enough money. But for the meantime, I'll just trust my old traditional tools because if I don't trust them, no one else will. 🤣

Thanks. There is a link to the TinkerCad 3D schematics in the video description. You need to create an account and login to TinkerCad so you can start using it and seeing the dimensions. Use laptop or computer web browser to open TinkerCad.

what is the name of the thing at 6:59? and what's the purpose of putting cotton inside the box?? what's the purpose of the crossover thing? how to search that online?
@chrclmnky
@chrclmnky 4 жыл бұрын
That was just a speaker cup terminal. The speaker is sealed so need to put in polyfiber fill to make the box appear "bigger" to the woofer, thereby producing lower notes. Crossover - to divide the output frequency to proper speakers. High frequencies to the tweeter, low ones to the woofer.

2 way is enough. And 3 way speakers look very ancient.

Can someone explain the impedance sweep test? I want to understand what you are doing at this point in the video and how to use that information. Thank you!

Hello Jeremie, the impedance sweep test is part of the Dayton Audio DATS v3 software and hardware impedance tester.

Thanks for the feedback. Didn't able to measure the frequency response. Have to buy a very good microphone and find a very good testing software for that.

@@chrclmnky Check out the mic from mini DSP. I use it myself. It works Well. Also you can use REW (Room EQ Wizard). It's a free software. Here are links to both. www.minidsp.com/products/acoustic-measurement/umik-1 www.roomeqwizard.com/

Dayton Audio DATS v3. You can download it for free here - www.trueaudio.com/dats/dats_v3_support.htm but you still need the hardware to start measuring speakers.

speakers secured with good bolts and the rest with rusty screws, and you put glue on crossovers?

Whats wrong with hot glue on the crossovers?
@muttBunch

Absolutely nothing wrong with hot glue. I’ve had a pair of old big ass pioneer hp-100s from the early 80s and guess what, damn hot glue is still keeping the x-over secure as hell

Gotta agree in some sense, nothing wrong with Hot Glue, but the unsunken finishing screws on the rear were saddening after such beautiful work
