Hi Elly, this tutorial inspired me to make my first batch of soap with leftover oils. The soaps had a whitish film on top and some grainy crystals - probably lye that wasn’t dissolved. I cooked them up today, 2 days after the initial pour, and am really happy with the cooking. I can understand how hot process can be relaxing. The only challenge was guessing how much extra water to add to the pot. For my small 3-bar batch, which is a mild cleansing soap, I added teaspoons of distilled water. Thank you very much for the tutorials!

Great video Elly, good to see the process of fixing the issue. It made me realise I had a similar thing happen about a year and a half ago with pure coconut oil cleaning soaps, It seemed to have traced enough before I reached for the stick blender so I went ahead and poured it. It was lye heavy for about 10-12 days then seemed to have sorted it self out eventually. I didn't realise it was the lack of blending and emulsion. Thanks Elly for another great video 🙏🙏🙏

Hi Ellie it was great! I loved watching the video - and all the way to the end! 😃. Not bored at all, it was really informative to me and fun to see how to fix the lye heavy parts, by cooking it again. I find watching soap making so therapeutic, as is your voice. Wonderful! Thank you 🙏🏻

Great video Elly. Also love your attitude about whole situation. Finding humor in mistakes, instead of kicking oneself, has me laughing at myself quite often. Wish all mistakes had such a simple fix;). Thanks Elly.

Hi Elly, watched your video this morning the morning after making soap that went horribly wrong. All my fault. Put too hot lye mixture in to oils then when I realised trace was rapid I hurriedly moulded up my soap and put in oven heated to 170 then turned off before putting the soap in. So too hot mix went in to hot over. What a mistake to make. This morning I have a blistered burned mess. Well that was a lesson on patients. I am so cross with myself as the colour blend for my orange Halloween soap was perfect. I’ll wait longer for the lye mix to cool next time. Boo hoo 😢 I love your videos as you show us things do occasionally go wrong but to carry on and fix it if you can. Lots of love Thanks Kim

Oh, I'm glad I watched this before trying to make my soap, I was wondering if I could get away with not using my stick blender. Apparently, better use it! Thank you for posting it!

I was so glad that this all happened because I learned a lot about how to fix a problem. At first I had wondered if you had put too much castor oil in, I have done that before and it’s turned out grainy. I have never done a hot process soap before and have been making soap for over 40 years. You inspired me to try doing a batch now thank you for your time! Donna in Panama City Florida

Hi Elly. This is such a great video. It explains why the aloe and cucumber soap I made cracked. I made the soap in January this year and everything looked fine. After 2 days of drying it still felt very soft to the touch, but I tried cutting it anyway. Big chunks broke off. I never thought to test the ph, I know from this video that's what I should have done. Lesson learnt :). It's now the end of August and I'm only just starting to use the soap I made. It's a really nice soap, it's finally solidified enough. Thanks for taking the time to explain what happened to your soap.
