Elly, I was very happy about your neem soap tutorial because the materials used are all easy to access in tropical areas I'm also happy to share the fact that I finally made my very first batch of Tea Tree oil,Grapeseed Oil,Chanca Piedra tea soap.The base oils were 80% Coconut Oil, 20% Shea Butter with 20% SF.The resulting soap was so nice I'm inlove with it. Hi Mrs. Elly, I love it, this gelled soap is truly beautiful. I had read before about the benefits of neem oil for hair, but I had never heard about benefits for skin, however it makes sense! It would have never crossed my mind about putting it in a soap bar. Also, other than one recipe for pure coconut oil soap, I don’t think I have any other soap recipe in my collection that doesn’t use any olive oil! This is fascinating. Thanks so much, you’re my #1 go-to for soap recipes and ideas; sending much love to you Down Under from Florida, USA.😊

Hi Elly.....I love using neem oil in all my soap....😊....... I guess it's just because of me being Indian and knowing the benefits of neem..... using neem oil@ 10% in any recipe will give you a brown colour even if you don't use neem powder that's what I've experienced.
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it! I have made neem oil soap a few times before though and it wasn't dark brown like this. I even used more neem oil in my previous recipes. This is the first time I've used powder and first time it's gone dark brown, so I thought it was the powder (and it makes sense that it would). I'll have to try it without the powder now to see! Thanks for your input :)

Hi Elly, your absolutely right...... My neem oil soaps don't turn this dark brown. Talking about lye, I have been making soap for well over 45 years and I have never had an incident until recently. I have always kept a spray bottle of vinegar close by when making soap because vinegar deactivates the lye but I happen to have my gallon bottle of vinegar out as well that day, and I don’t know what happened but I splashed soap into both of my eyes that I had just added the lye to, and so I immediately bent backwards over the sink and filled my eyes with vinegar. It wasn’t pleasant, but it stopped any damage, so I highly recommend keeping vinegar around when you’re making soap.! I did see the eye doctor, and he said if it wasn’t for the vinegar, I would’ve lost both eyes! Lesson learned never be confident when doing something dangerous!!
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking11 ай бұрын
I'm sorry to hear about your eye, but glad it is ok! The MSDS for NaOH doesn't suggest vinegar, but rather lots of water then to the doctor! Personally, I would avoid it altogether by always wearing goggles. I never make soap without complete eye coverage over my glasses.

Palm kernel oil is like coconut oil and saponifies very hot! They can volcano if made too hot. I'm not sure what you mean by 40% lye discount. You may want to check out my soap formulation playlist for clarification to ensure you're using a correct and safe method for devising your soap recipes.

I live in Pakistan and palm oil is not available here for household use.

What sort of animal fats do you have? A beef tallow or goat tallow could easily substitute. You would need to run the formula through a soap calculator, to make sure you have the right amount of lye.

I don't know where my comment went but your litsea isn't within the skin safe usage rate. According to the newest IFRA, everything above 3% of the total oil weight is not safe for use on skin
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking11 ай бұрын
I only used 3% of litsea (3% each litsea and eucalyptus - 6% total).
