This lovely bread is an Irish recipe. it is so easy to make and really nice. recipe written below.
pre heat oven 210 degrees C
baking tray with paper
large bowl
3 and 1/2 cups plain flour
1 tea spoon salt
1 tea spoon bicarb soda also baking soda
2 tea spoons sugar optional
1/2 chopped nuts or dried fruit small optional
mix together
30g butter chopped small
add to flour and rub together
make a hole in middle
jug
1 and 1/2 cups buttermilk
1 egg
whisk
add to flour mixture
with end spoon mix til leaves side of bowl
sprinkle with plain flour
get into a ball
place on tray
dust with flour
with back of knife make a cross
with something like a chop stick put 4 holes in the corners
rub a little buttermilk all over
remember not to open oven
bake for 15 mins at 210 then turn down to 200 for a further 20 mins
flick if sounds hollow she is ready
best eaten hot or sliced and toasted the next day
cover at room temp will last 4 days
can freeze for up to 3 weeks
