Good morning @MrYoucandoityourself I have 1/2" thick solid bamboo floors. I dont have all the tools or skills that you have. Can I make a stair nosing by rounding over the edges of two pieces then gluing and nailing them together?

@@MrYoucandoityourself thank you for the response. I tried to do the nose that you showed but of course using the gun splits or chips the wood where the nails goes in. Wish i would have know, i wouldnt work with bamboo floor. Any tips from you would help. Thanks again.
@splash59746 жыл бұрын
@@luannguyen-rh6nq If its solid bamboo, you could always use a round over bit for the front of the nosing, then just refinish where you routered the edge. I did something similiar with bamboo, as a transition going into my bathroom with tiles... My bamboo is natural colour, so all i did was brush on some clear polyurethane to seal the edge back up. Once it dried, you cant tell the difference from the rest of the flooring.

the amount of pin nails being put make sure the glue holds, it acts as a clamp. I get that. But the sheer amount of nail ''holes'' isn't noticeable? once you handle these, you have to see them right? Can you tell when you walk on them that they were ''nailed'' together?
@MrYoucandoityourself6 жыл бұрын
Hi Patrick, I used pin nails 23 Ga - it's not visible and hold very good. Thanks!
@splash59746 жыл бұрын
He is using a pin nailer, not brad nails. Once the glue dries, the glue gives it the strength, not the pin nails. They just act as a clamp til the glue sets up. And they are so small, you probably wouldnt notice any holes, and other people definitely wont notice!

I make "nosing" stair treads at my work as part of my job and I don't know what this video is even showing him doing. I am here because a coworker said I should post a video to youtube as a joke because I am sort of the "trainer" of new employees.

If you can’t figure out what he is doing then you probably shouldn’t be making these yourself. I only install and I can see what he is doing.

attn df tough guys......I was only pointing out that what he is doing is nothing like what at the stair company I work for......calls "2 inch Nosing treads" which often have "open" risers and is a challenge to get the returns to match up perfectly and look professional from 6inches away. We use a shaper on the return side and an attachment piece to get 2 inches. My favorite thing to do is a "2inch double open riser w a bulldog". Y maybe you shouldn't have access to the internet LOL!

Very interesting, the edge is too sharp and won't last very long without splintering. In the Toronto area, that is considered a hack job by diy's . Never ever use flooring on treads. Buy solid treads or veneered treads with solid nosing. So easy to match stain colors. Do it right!!!! Just my opinion...been a G C for 35 years and when I see this type of practice, just infuriates me. Sorry man ...also learn the proper way to use a table saw.

MrYoucandoityourself I find that you are very talented...in Canada it's not permitted. I haven't seen your video on how you gave a round over bull nose. Cheers
@splash59746 жыл бұрын
@@marcosorgini6027 Don't tell him that its not permitted! Lol Just say its not your way of doing it... I live in Canada, 2 hrs from Toronto, you can do what you like when finishing stairs. Theres no rule to this! Whether its rounded over, or bevelled, or not. Plus i can tell you of some of the hack jobs i see...doesnt matter where you live. Hacks are everywhere! Lol But i do agree, as someone with 2 children, the sharp edges wouldnt last long in my house.
@MrLucifuge19735 жыл бұрын
It is not permitted because we "real" installers know it wont hold up. Most engineered is finished with just a few mm's of actual hardwood. It is common sense. It will splinter and end up in someone's foot. We are taught this by "real" installers who figured this out 50 years ago and passed that knowledge down. It may look nice and I've done it bc the customer swore up and down that is how they wanted it. 2 weeks later I'm back replacing them. Smiling my ass off when they hand over the grand I charged them to fix it. @@splash5974
@splash59745 жыл бұрын
@@MrLucifuge1973 I get what you're saying...but it is your opinion. That doesnt mean permitted or not permitted. That is not regulated by an installer! There is no rule in place for a hard corner, or bevel on stair nosing. If so, tiled stairs would not be permitted...but in fact they are!
