In this video I am making a British pub grub classic: STEAK and KIDNEY PIE! Yes, this is the real deal, I'm cooking with kidneys. The end result is mouthwatering and truly "offally" good!
Warning: If you don't want to see the offals, heed my "offal warning" and then jump to 3:10 min.
Please visit my website www.missanglophilia.com for more inspiration connected to my "favourite island"!

FAQ:
Where are you from?
- I am from Bavaria, but I LOVE Britain! :-)
Why Miss Anglophilia?
- At the age of ten, I had my first encounter with the English language at school. My teacher never tired of telling us inspirational stories about culture “on the island”. And that was it - I fell in love with it all! So Miss Anglophilia is me and it has been for many years.
Is this just about England?
- As for me, it all started with England which we were taught a lot about at school. I was lucky enough to live in England for a little while during my university years. There, I got to know many lovely people - not only English, but also Scottish, Welsh and Irish. So for me, “anglophilia” doesn’t stop at the English borders.
What does "Servus" mean?
- It's a Bavarian word used to greet people that you know and like. :)

To let the funky smell go, add a couple of spoons of vinegar in the resting water of the kidneys.. then that time period will shorten to just 10 to 15 minutes

I've eaten this often during my life....but I've never heard kidney referred to as offal... But kidney is rich in iron,so it is very much needed by the body...but I think it's recommended that you don't eat too much kidney per month....everybody calls it Kate and Sidney pie...great with chips and tomato ketchup..and you can usually buy one in a chip shop,hot and ready to eat.. You can tell if raw kidney is fresh just by sniffing it.

Nice vid, interesting, yet controversial :) Pippa's recipe has taken you to one of the great debates... Is it really a pie with only a pastry crust. Most in the UK would say no. A pie, by definition, has the ingredients totally encased in pastry. Certainly in the North of England it does. And re the filling, a traditional S&K pie would contain only the meats, onion, and gravy. And the kidney, usually a smaller dice. Any other veg would be served on the side with the pie. And no mushrooms, save those for when making a steak and mushroom pie. All that said, it did look delicious. On a personal note, i'd also drop the Guinness. Steak and ale is classic, but I think Guinness too strong. I think you're more likely to get a 'funky' taste off the Guinness (it's quite bitter) rather than the meats. Maybe if you make it again for yourself in the future you could try it without the Guinness. You'd certainly notice the difference, and see which you preferred :)
@MissAnglophilia

Thank you for watching and writing such a long comment!!! :) Haha, oh dear, Pippa's controversial recipe...! ;) I did follow all her instructions and must say that I really liked the taste of the dish. (I also really love mushrooms, always have, and was very happy to have them in the filling, haha!) Oh, and it wasn't Guinness, it just said that on the glass, that was a bit misleading - sorry!

Super hast du das hingekriegt. Auch wenn ich es nicht essen würden (du weißt ja warum 😉) sieht es lecker aus. Nachkochen werde ich es auf jeden Fall für mein Männeke, aber ohne Niere. @@MissAnglophilia poor offal gets a bum rap. Though i do like the flavour of kidney more than the texture :) But liver cooked properly is a thing of beauty. Cut it thin, and flash fry it. makes a crust on the outside, and leaves the inside soft, and still pink. done right it's almost like hot pate.
