When I lived in Japan I discovered these buns while I was hurrying to go to work. It was at a convenience store. I would get one port and one chicken and a can of cream of corn soup to wash it down. Thank for the video. One day, you’ll have to make my all time favorite gyoza.

I’d love to eat the katsu curry bun! Good job sharing these with us. Try dusting your hands with flour when the dough gets sticky. You can use a wine bottle (no label) or a plastic wrap roll as a rolling pin for your dough. Working the dough enough makes the perfect texture for your buns.

It's so funny and cute when you speed up the video! 🤣🤣🤣 Much love to you and Uncle Roger from Iceland! 😁 PS. The bar/stick for rolling out dough is called a rolling pin. I still prefer to use hands for kneading dough. It helps develop massaging skills in case they are needed! 😀

that kind of dough does get sticky, so next time powder your hands with flour and then see if that makes a difference. (if i am remembering my mum's advice correctly....)
@mattzukowski12074 жыл бұрын
Professional Bakers use powder. Amateur Bakers like myself use oil. As long as you're adding oil why don't you sesame oil on hands?

I was about to comment the same thing definitely works as to prevent sticking. And for an alternative to rolling pin use a wine bottle. Or large bottle. :)

I love how much fun you're having while doing it, also my dough hack for when I have to make perfect flat circles is to put the ball of dough between two flat surfaces (for example the cutting board and a plate), put some parchment paper underneath the ball of dough and on top of it, and press it down to your desired length. That's how I skip the rolling process for dumping and I hope it helps you too.

I liked the idea of the takoyaki bun but i thought the steamed dough bun might not go as well as the more traditional coating. The katsu curry and the original nikuman looked the best. I love Japanese curry, and I love steamed buns, so combing them seems like an obvious choice. Buns are probably the best food to eat if you have to go somewhere, because they are easy to carry and are self-contained. You don't need a a plate, or a fork, or chopsticks. You just need extra arms so that you can hold enough buns.
@MaverickRiou4 жыл бұрын
It all looks so good! Tip for making buns, the centre of the dough should be thicker than the sides, to account for even cooking. I used to use a wine glass when I didn’t have rolling pin, then I got a cheap one off Daiso. Thank you for your hard work, chef!
