In this video I will show you how to make your own steampunk goggles that are inexpensive, yet will stand out in the sea of brass painted welding goggles. They are very easy to customize and make your own.
You can get the goggles pattern here: www.lostwaxoz....
Links to products used here: www.lostwaxoz.c...
If you have made my top hat, you will already have most of what you need to complete this project. I think you will find that the craft foam is surprisingly durable when it is finished, and is easy to work with using common household tools.
***UPDATE** You don't need to use liquid latex at all if you don't want to . Regular white glue works as well to stiffen up the middle section.
Go for it!
Magically turn foam into leather. • How To Make Faux Leath...
You can find my blog with my steampunk jewelry and other interesting bits here www.lostwaxoz.com
You can send me pics of your finished goggles at lostwaxozcontact@gmail.com

I bought the pattern and my glasses turned out awesome! Thanks! A few things I did to make it easier: To make the head screws instead of cutting them I applied heat to the end of a flat blade screwdriver and touched it to the screw heads. This made an instant mark and looks perfect. I used "Plasti-Dip" spray to rubberize my entire goggle. Awesome product and if you get black, you do not have to paint! Just paint and rub and you're done!

My daughter and I bought your combo pack of patterns and started making the goggles. What fun! We had a bit of trouble with the glue on the skinny edges, ended up using super glue for those, but otherwise it's coming along great! Will post pics when completed. Your videos are fun and entertaining and give great info. Well done!

Awesome! Your Steampunk glasses are better than sliced bread, toilett paper and definitely better than heavy welding glasses! Watching your video on Steampunk Goggles solved a number of my "creative" problems! Brilliant! I like to make things, too:-) But I'm overseas, so I can't always get the stuff needed for some projects. Fun Foam! Who would have thought... Thanks for sharing and offering your pattern (I sent you an email about paying via PayPal) Thanks again!!!

I never fully attempted a steampunk themed item because i felt i didnt have the necessary materials (brass/copper/other shiny metal pieces, wires, mesh....and a lot of tutorials require special glue/paint/gloss/glaze that i wouldnt even know where to buy). Your vids are simple and use basic items yet turn out amazing! Eagerly awaiting more vids =D

Hey everyone a quick helpful tip! When making a notch for the screws at 2:16, you don't really need to a really sharp blade simply use a solider tip and draw a line and that's it ! it will melt a perfect thin line with perfection :)

Rememer your Steampunk Top Hat Tutorial? I was actually thinking about making a pair of goggles and a book for a steampunk-loving friend with that 'patched up metal' theme (will start as soon as I get some lenses for the goggles), but this is quite awesome too. Thanks for sharing!

This was a fun way to make goggles! I took a few liberties with the design. Mostly I just used hot glue instead of all the other adhesives. Also I used some paper fasteners instead of little hole punched circles. Instead of using liquid latex I used Elmer's glue because I did not want to wear them and have to worry about people's allergies.

Could wire be added to the nosepiece to make it stiffer? Maybe by sandwiching it between the foam and the yarn. This is a great steampunk project. I didn't know something this cool could be made from foam!

So I just thought of using JB Weld liquid instead of 2 part epoxy. Same idea: 2 part adhesive that sets up fairly quickly, but it already comes in metallic colors because it's steel reinforced liquid welding bonding agent. Apply after painting for a contrast rivet!

But I do have a question, what would say to someone who has never created anything like the goggles or the top hat...or well anything steampunk before like me and really want to but worried that the projects will turn out completely wrong in the end? I'm sorry for the run on and blabbering question, but thank you for your time.

Lizzy Sanders I say, go for it! I do lots of projects that turn out to be complete failures, but I always learn something from trying them. The only way to get good at something is to start doing it:) If I were you I would probably start with the top hat, and expect to make 2 of them. The first one to make all your mistakes on, and the second to look awesome!
