i got to tell you--I really like your style--you don't do all fancy all the time but your technique is very basic and easy to follow and that is what I like. You make mistakes along the way and you roll with them, learn from them and go on to the next thing. Thank you for all your help. Patty in NH

I've seen a lot of folks making sbhp soaps with goat milks and other oils but not much with tallow, can it be done with tallow? I assume so, but I guess you never know unless you ask.

I've only had one occasion in which using a rubber spatula for soapmaking and cooking turned out to be a poor choice. I needed a rubber spatula in a pinch to scrape something out of a bowl, and used a "soapmaking" one - the resulting dish tasted like the fragrance oil that had absorbed into the rubber. So I don't advise dual use rubber spatulas. Stainless steel spoons and glass I've not had that problem with. Oh, and I'm still in disbelief that the same stick blender I bought at Wal-Mart for $20 12 years ago to make soap with STILL WORKS! I love how the piped embeds look in this soap, too! How cool?!

hey your soap looks amazing! How long do you wait to cut it? Also, I'm very new to soap making, so excuse the silly questions - but is it correct that you are not heating anything at all during your entire process? Do you just mix the lye & water, and add it to the oil when it's really hot? Why do people use crock pots if it can be done so easily without? Thank you so much for your help!
@khione8044
@khione8044 4 жыл бұрын
@Eve Cabrera Yes, that is correct. Both Lye and Oils were mixed while roughly around 200*F. This cooks itself because the Lye will raise the Temperature even higher when it mixes with the Oils. This is easier, yes. But also more dangerous for a beginner. Crockpots are recommended when 1st starting out because Volcanoes can be kept more to a minimum with the lower heat. I never recommend more advanced methods (like this one here) until someone has finished learning the Base Process 1st (these means with the Crockpot when it comes to HP).

Thank you for sharing this wonderful tutorial. Today I tried my hand at it but mine directly went to glossy gel/Vaseline stage , I had not volcano - is that normal ? My oils were heated to 215*F and lye water was 170*F .

I guess the only downside I see to hot process is you can’t do the cool designs you can do with cold. And you can’t do a lot of colors without help cause you wouldn’t have enough hands to deal with all the volcanoes at once. Right??
@catzkeet4860
@catzkeet4860 4 жыл бұрын
Ummm no. In most cases you cook your soap first, then you add your colours and fragrance into seperate vessels. As long as you have some way to keep your batter warm, it’ll stay fluid ( like in the oven on low or a hot water bath) People regularly do multiple colours in SBHP. In this case I guess she did two right from the start because it’s a big batch and they’re only wanting two colours but it’s perfectly reasonable to do three or more colours with this method.

If you put plain Greek yogurt in there as well it makes a little creamier more fluid and you can do swirls and different designs

@Shanthi Nandakumar @Bhavita Saxena The Lye and Oils (both) were at around 200*F when mixed. It is important for both to be very Hot if you want it to cook itself like it does here. The Temperature will rise when both are mixed together, which is one reason for why it Volcanoes so much in High Temp Soaps.

Should one heat the water before adding the lye to it, to get the lye water to 200*F ?
@khione8044
@khione8044 4 жыл бұрын
@@meerasingh5992 No need to heat the water. Wait until the Oils reach 200*F, then make your Lye Solution. Room Temp Water with freshly added lye will get to around 200*F on its own. Just make sure to thoroughly dissolve well, before mixing with the oils. You don't want any undissolved lye getting into the soap.

How do you heat it without a crockpot?
@khione8044
@khione8044 4 жыл бұрын
@jennifer scott This method uses a similar technique to HTHP (High Temp Hot Process). You mix the Oils and Lye while they are both at around 200*F (very, very hot even compared to traditional Hot Process). When the Hot Lye mixes with the Hot Oils (both around 200*F), it will begin to get even Hotter as the Lye will raise the Temperature when mixed. This allows it to Cook itself, rather than needing an external source. But because of the High Heat levels, makes it Volcano a lot more, which is why I always recommend the Crockpot for a Beginner, before moving on to more advanced Techniques such as this one here.

Right away if you want to but it's better soap if you let it sit for a couple of weeks and let some of the water evaporate.

What would happen if you did not stir the mixture when it started volcanoing... as long as it did not spill out the top? Don't mind watching you; not interested in doing it myself. Just curious.

I have EDS (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome), Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Epstein Barr, ...you name it. I have to work because I'm the only income and am a nurse.I am the one who figured out I had EDS and went to a geneticist to see if I was correct and I was. I hope you can find out what's going on . Feel free to reach out anytime; I've done tremendous research during my own journey (I'm in my 50s and just diagnosed with EDS 3 years ago). Also, I use the crockpot to make soap and don't know how to make it volcano without a heat source. Do you use high oil and lye temps and discount water? Blessings
