for the people wondering about the cooking in the microwave, realize her microwave is no ordinary microwave. Regular microwaves use 600-800 Watts. Her's use 1000 kilowatts or 1,000,000 watts. So no it's not her, it's the microwave. That thing is basically an oven.

If you want to make sticky rice easily, and you happen to be a field worker or something, and you really need the calories, I'll tell you a way to make sticky rice that's not so unnecessarily complicated. 1. Do not rinse the starch 2. One cup of rice for 2 cups of water 3. Put it on medium low, not high not medium, put it a little below medium. 4. Leave the top on so it can steam, monitor it. 5. Stir occasionally. The combination of the slow cooking, the starch being heated, and the effect of the steam because the top is on is what helps make it sticky. Think of the starch like the glue, and the steam is what activates it. But it needs to be at low temperature. And you don't got to preheat the water.

I tried this method of cooking my rice, but I always use glass and NEVER EVER microwave plastic because it leaches the chemicals right into the food, and those chemicals are toxic and cancer causing. My rice came out perfect using the measurements and cooking the rice for 3 minutes, and then 3 again after a stir. Thank you for the lesson, and I hope you will never use any type of plastics again with hot water or in microwaves. Always use glass as it is the only safe thing to cook in a microwave with.

Sticky rice is totally fine to be cooked in a microwave oven. What to be aware is the amount of water added because too few and too much water will turn rice into burnt, uncooked rice and wet, gooey rice respectively. Besides, soaking rice overnight in water can help taking off starch and soften rice without a risk of wetting it. Finally, letting excess water out by fan-blowing the steam right after cooking is encouraged for authentic taste. [Trust me. My father grew up in sticky rice culture.]

Most of you people surprised about the use of a microwave I guess must not be British. Every UK home has a microwave and we use it all the time. I dont know of another country that uses them quite so often. My guess is that in the UK almost every household uses a microwave at least once a day. We find them very useful and cut down cooking time for many dishes. I guess for the rest of the world though it reinforces their view of typical British cooking, but don't knock it until you try it. We like it anyway. Maybe we just like being different.

Actually, using the microwave gets pretty good results. And the wattage is a useful bit of info so you can decide if your oven will cook at a similar rate. However if you are ignorant of the proper uses and techniques for the microwave, stick to the old steamer method. Wherever a steamer works, I find the microwave to be a good alternative.
