How to Make Taiyaki and White Bean Paste (Fish Shaped Cake Filled with Sweet Bean Paste Recipe)

We are making delicious white bean paste and Taiyaki, a fish shaped cake filled with sweet bean paste. The freshly made Taiyaki is exceptionally delicious, and it is also fun to make.
How to make Taiyaki and White Bean Paste

(5 pieces) Cook Time: 120 minutes
* Time for soaking beans in water overnight is not included in cook time.
- Taiyaki Batter -
100g Cake Flour (3.53 oz)
2/3 tsp Baking Soda
2 tbsp Sugar
1/2 Egg (30g/1.06 oz)
100ml Water (3.38 fl oz)
150g White or Black Bean Paste (5.29 oz)
30g/1.06 oz for each piece
Ingredients for White Bean Paste
(approx. 800g/1.76 lb)
250g Daifuku Mame (a type of Shiro Ingen Mame) - White Beans (0.551 lb)
1000ml Water for soaking beans (4.23 u.s. cup)
100ml+50ml Sashimizu - Adding cold water to boiling water
250g Granulated Sugar (0.551 lb)
A pinch of Salt
** You can store bean paste in a freezer by dividing it into small pieces.
* 1 tablespoon (tbsp) = 15 ml, 1 teaspoon (tsp) = 5 ml

You can buy a taiyaki pan on ebay or amazon US :) The price is a bit expensive though...

Cake flour is used for this taiyaki recipe. The flour has low protein content, giving the taiyaki a soft fluffy texture. You can find the list of ingredients in the video description :)

You're mom doesn't know what's good. She just doesn't like it (Or had a bad one), that doesn't mean you won't like it either. I recommend buying that sweet bean paste in a can (Anko) at your local Asian supermarket and make the butter by yourself, it's very easy and fast to make. And soooooo delicious! You can also put other things between the batter like chocolate. Maybe your mom had taiyaki made from puff pastry, those are less good than the ones in the video.

Chef recommends that you should make the bean paste as soft as the taiyaki skin :) Firm bean paste is OK though.
