Absolutely definitely the tea has to brew in boiling water before milk is added - so in a MUG the milk is added after but in a teacup where the tea is brewed in a pot, then the milk is put in the cup first and the tea onto the milk.

The funny thing is as and Aussie you are closer to the origin of tea than those in the U.K. the Chinese , Korean, and Japanese and others Asian countries have been drinking tea for 1000's of years before the British. I find it funny how so many people do not now the origins of foods. Like the Irish with the Potatoes, the Italians with tomotoes , everyone and chocolate , the beef taco in Mexico. If people would loik them up they might be amazed.

The company I work for has a sales representative in the UK who visits us once every year at the sales meeting. He brought in some Yorkshire tea and was bragging about how much better it is than ordinary Lipton's tea. He left some for us, and I made some myself. The main thing I noticed was that the Yorkshire tea makes darker tea much faster. You don't have to steep it as long as the cheaper tea. But I don't think I can really taste any difference when they're steeped to the same color. Do you think you could? You should do a blindfolded taste test to see if you can identify the expensive tea vs the cheap tea. And I love Earl Grey tea. It's the favorite tea of Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the Starship Enterprise. Oh - and I had never thought about putting milk in tea until he prepared it that way. Putting milk in tea is unusual in the US at least in my experience. We put it in coffee, but not tea. And I must have some sugar in my tea.

I thought it would be silly, but it has been so much fun! People really enjoy it! Everyone dresses up a little and brings a variety of small cookies, fancy little appetizers, finger foods like delicate sandwiches (quartered and crustless) and all bring their teapots, favorite teas and teacups with saucers to share. We bring out table cloths and flowers; it's a simple event that needs no reason whatsoever, but it is really fun! I highly recommend it! Hi Lia! My grandfather loved his tea (his father was born in Bolton, UK). The family emigrated to Canada, then to Connecticut. We always had a tea kettle on the stove that whistled when it was ready. Teabag in the water, brewed, milk and sugar. My grandfather put in soooooo much sugar, however that there was always about a quarter of an inch of syrupy sugar in the bottom of his tea cup! I still like a cup of hot tea of an evening, but I don't put milk in it anymore. My favorite is Tetley "British Blend."

Do you brew into your cup and wait to brew in the little pot? Also I would love to see you share about different brands of teas. Thank you very much Lia. I'm older, old enough to be your mother :) -so I've probably got more experience going to hospitals with family, and something I've discovered is how wonderful it is to have hot tea right there in the hospital. We love loose leaf tea, wide varieties, and our favorite infusers are permabrew single cup or full teapot infusers, we used to buy them from Upton, but they're not selling them anymore, I just found them on Bed Bath and Beyond though, as "Topps" Full Pot tea infuser, or single cup infuser. We'll boil some filtered water in a pot, then stick an infuser barrel in once it's come to a rolling boil, steep for at least 5 minutes (we like strong tea) and then transfer to an Airpot (thermal carafe) and we bring along paper cups with lids, and a smaller thermos with half and half...I do like a little sugar in my tea, and I also confess, I put the sugar in first, so it's utterly dissolved when I add the very hot tea. The airpot will keep it hot for hours and we can have literally 3 quarts of tea along--it's enough for several family members. I realize this isn't even possible most places nowadays what with the pandemic, but some day... I was a little surprised you didn't address teapot warming :) When I'm at my Mom's and we're going to settle in for an hour + of tv viewing, I'll fix a pot of tea, my Mom is in a wheelchair, and her kitchen is at the far end of a ranch style house. First, I warm the teapot using hot tap water, while I'm boiling filtered water in a 3 quart pot (not usually full, as the favorite teapot is only a 5 or 6 cup teapot) I also keep at least one of her creamers in her freezer! So, when I come back with a tea tray, there's a hot teapot, a cold creamer and a lidded sugar bowl in the same pattern (Floradora Green is her favorite), though she also enjoys several Aynsley and Minton patterns as well, she used to collect tea sets. Like you, we tend to fix mug sized cups of tea....but it is nice to get out the cups and saucers occasionally. My kids all grew up enjoying tea and now have their own eclectic collections. I highly recommend www.uptontea.com/ and if you can find those Topps tea infusers, they're wonderful, plus you don't have to worry about squeezing ;)

Just wanted to say I think you got most everything spot on. Just two minor comments. First if one drinks different kinds of tea (green teas, herbal teas, white teas etc) that a kettle with a temperature setting is very nice to have! Then you can set your kettle for the right temp water for the type of tea you are making. Secondly if you like to keep your tea really warm for a longer period of time I first boil water and then fill my cup and tea pot (if using) with boiling water and leave it in there for a good 5 minutes or so and then dump the water out into a bowl or whatever and use it to water plants once it’s cooled. Then I heat up the required amount of water for the teapot (or just cup) and pour it into the pot or cup. This helps the pot and cup come up to temperature and my tea will stay warmer longer. Of course this is only an issue if one take say 20 + minutes to finish their cup or pot of tea (like I do LOL). It’s obviously not necessary for everyone! Great video!

Your right! As long as it doesnt interfere with the brewing process ( tea and water ) You can add ur milk before or after. If you brewed in the cup u added milk last. Since u brewed in the pot, you added milk to the cup beforehand. And thats fine.

This was very informative, thank you! I grew up in a house where we only had an American version of builder's tea and a kettle that went on the stove top. I started drinking a lot more tea two years ago, and almost a year ago, another member of a group I"m in mentioned having cocoa tea. This sounded like heaven, found an online shop that sold various chocolate teas and have since fallen down the rabbit hole with this one tea shops offerings. I now have a proper electric tea kettle (I goofed and purchased a 1 liter, should have gone for the 1.7l) a tea strainer, and the majority of my tea tins are loose teas. I find the process of making tea very relaxing. The Greek-Cypriot tea variation is actually that shop's 'Holiday Tea'. While I love cinnamon tea, the clove didn't appeal. I bought a tin with 30 teabags, so I was going to suck it up and drink them. Happened on what sounds like an odd combination, but it elevates the cinnamon and clove so much: Orange juice! If you're willing to give it a try, use about the same amount of orange juice as you put oatly into your biscuit tea.

Enjoyed catching what I did live during the premiere. Looking forward to watching the replay in my garden during sunset in the next few minutes.

Holly Cow!!!, I just put 4 large tea bags in a gallon of water, Put it out in the sun here in the SW, for 3-6 hours, bring it in, put in in the frig, then serve Iced cool Sun Tea. I'll have to try this but it looks like an investment.

I survive on cold brew hibiscus tea. Tis great for my blood pressure as well. Thank you for the tea education on the proper Brit way.

It’s a grey, rainy day, no better time to enjoy tea. 🤎 When you review the electric tea pot kettle thingamajig, you should also review a Teasmade alarm if you can get your hands on one. I’m so tempted to order one, but would love to see it in action before I spend the $$. They’re quite spendy over here.

I live in Dallas and I love my tea! Lemon Ginger is my favorite 🧡...Anyway, my electric kettle has changed my life! I took it to Wyoming when my father passed recently and my family was so impressed they all got them as well. My young nieces especially loved it🧡

Very interesting! I’m an American coffee person and have just be some curious about tea recently. I don’t believe I’ve ever had it with milk. I’m excited to try and maybe it’ll taste better this time.

I just finished a box of Yorkshire Tea that I picked up at the supermarket here in Canada. It is quite nice! Although I confess that I'm a teabag "squeezer".

wonderful!! Beautiful color on that 1st cup, honey bun! I love Yorkshire & Yorkshire gold but Typhoo is my favorite. No sugar for me but if I drink an herbal or infusion of some kind I'll drop 1/2 tsp of honey in there. : ) Thanks

I have a Fijian friend and she but milk in her tea. So I tried it out. Omg it took tea to a whole other level. Milk is the glue for tea.

The fact that you and Ash don't have any sugar in your house SHOOK ME. 😱 I've never heard of such a thing. You always need sugar, hence the phrase "borrow a cup of sugar" because it's such a staple. But, then I remembered you guys are really healthy and some of my shock went away, ever so slightly! 😄

Live in California- we do have a kettle, love it. Would like to see english recipes, especially around the holidays. Your Greek tea looks interesting.

I picked up builder's tea the nine months I was in England. Totally gave up coffee for it! I use a large mug with tap water and microwave it to boiling (we have good water here). Then I use two bags of Bigelow English Teatime tea (its just a good quality black tea). The bags aren't very large so I do use two. Let it steep five minutes, add sugar and milk and I'm good to go!

Hate that I can no longer drink tea or coffee. I can only do herbal. Thanks for showing us all your tea ware. Loved that tea strain that hung on the cup. Gonna look out for that one

That was absolutely lovely. I learned so much and ordered a bunch of items on Amazon so that I can make a proper cup of English tea!
