Cool tool. Why not thread the central piece so you can set the thickness to your liking? I would also add a single spring loaded bearing on the handles edges so these won't be damaged over time....

I am cheap. Made my own. Bought a 1" dowel and 1"x2" board. Made it to fit my bats. I set my depth at 3/8". Can't wait to try it out. Cost me less than $5 and I have wood left over if I need to adjust.
@regularguy8592 Жыл бұрын
great but there is a homemade version mage from pvc that one can make on their own
@calebjones34942 жыл бұрын
This can easily be made or done for very little expense. For example, take two wooden skewers and a ruler, measure distance between wheel head and rim on one skewer and put the other inside the pot and mark the rim. Difference is bottom thickness.

I need centering tool, my wrist is planning to give up on me :(
@NightLighter634 жыл бұрын
You need the Strong Arm Centering Tool. There's a few videos of it on KZbin.
@rz19744 жыл бұрын
use softer clay, also most of the pressure should be coming from your left hand as the clay pushes into it (assuming your wheel spins counter clockwise), you can hurt your wrist easily if you are squeezing the clay from the sides instead of using the force of the wheel
@szyszynka11894 жыл бұрын
thanks for advices! I saw the strong arm tool but it's too expensive for me, I want to diy one but haven't found any videos about it. For now I will work now with soft and fresh clay only :)
@rz19744 жыл бұрын
@@szyszynka1189 good luck! Also, wrist pain can come from wedging, so make sure you are using your body weight, and again not trying to wedge clay that is too hard, there are many ways of making clay softer but they all take time therefore patience

Hey there! Greetings from Germany! In two weeks i'm keeping the house of a good friend for a few weeks. She has a weehl and said I can use it for training while she is gone. Now the big question: how to start best? I made some smal bowls one year ago with her moderating me. This time I'll be alone. ~ any advice? Thx!

Would you recommend this for a novice? Or should we concentrate on skill building before using a "cheater"?

If it were adjustable ....
@kennethdante4 жыл бұрын
It could very easily be adjustable if the center stick was made with threaded rod and screwed into the wood and secured with a nut to set the depth.

$55 sucka! haha. I can see how this might be helpful with a larger pot, but it seems just a little cumbersome for a small pot.
@unglaubiger56454 жыл бұрын
Never needed that tool. The base of my pots isn´t too thin or too thick, it would be just one more tool to clean. And did you see that rim at 2:27 ? Doesn´t look good.
@charliehartel53804 жыл бұрын
it may be one more tool to clean, but it is good for consistency, and the rim at 2:27 was unfinished.
@unglaubiger56454 жыл бұрын
@@charliehartel5380 The rim was unfinished, but the rough surface indicates a lack of crompression. It creates weak spots. You can learn how to throw with consistency, it´s not that hard.
@bayareaartist9993 жыл бұрын
Please , Please, Please do not show this tool to people. it is a waste of money, throw that tool away. And make pots. You can by making more pots learn to make the pots the way they are supposed to be. Use a needle tool to gauge depth. And this tool is a take off from a tool they used in North Carolina with the crock makers back in the day.
