A couple of years ago, I was in Jamaica on vacation, and I was sick as a dog--to the point that I thought I might need to go to the hospital. On our way to an excursion (I almost didn't go, but the money was paid) our driver realized I wasn't feeling well. He stopped by a local stand on the side of the road and got me a cup of porridge. After eating that and taking a dip in one of the natural waterholes there, I felt extremely better. I don't know what's in that porridge (or the water), but I am not joking when I say it felt like it cured whatever illness I was dealing with. I've been looking for a recipe ever since, and I can't wait to try this one. Sending love to you and your family.
