How to make the BEST Jerk Rig for Duck Hunting: Cheap DIY

This is how to make the cheapest and best jerk rig for duck hunting. It's the most natural looking jerk rig. You only need 1/2" PVC pipe, the length shorter than the depth of water you hunt, a 1/2" PVC T, rope/cord of some kind, and a decoy. It's quick and easy set up and creates lots of motion that moves your other decoys!
I've hunted over it for several seasons now and have brought home a lot more ducks when the wind is calm because of the motion created.

A crown royal bag is a good sub for PVC if it's rocky. Just attach a keyring to the draw string to run the line through. Then fill the bag with rocks when you get there.

I love projects like this....quick easy cheap and looks to be very effective. OH...and light to carry in! Did the decoy line work better? I looked into this, and with my dog, the sinking decoy line might keep the dog from getting tangled into the paracord

Haha thanks! The coated steel line will work better but the plastic decoy line doesn’t work because it has too much memory after being wrapped around the pipe

Great content amazing idea. I took it a step further and made it more packable by using swivels to clip string together upon arrival allowing decoys to stay in decoy bag, and pre fixing line and pvc goes in a small container that fits in my backpack for tangle free storage.

I don’t. I use black or brown cord and I hunt a lot of dirty water so I don’t have any problems with the birds seeing the cord. They lock onto the natural movement in the decoys and don’t mind the cord!

This is a great idea I'll try this season; looks like the ducks are feeding when you pull. Is it necessary to paint the PVC pipe and connector if it's going that far into the water?

If you were to make 3 separate rigs and then clip them all onto one line I think it would work. I actually planned on testing that soon!

I had to drill a hole to tie the string. But that T connector makes a huge difference.

No I have not… I tried using two two separate butts and pipes tied to a single cord but it didn’t work well with paracord. Let me know how it works out for you!

How would you do this in very shallow sheet water? 6 inches to a foot of water? If I shorten the pvc stake do you think it will still hold in the ground?

You could shorten it a bit and it should hold but I do my best to drive the stake in as far as I can when it’s shallow so I can still use it but shallow water is one of the few obstacles to this being perfect haha

I think it would! I’ve used a 3lb weight and it kinda worked but wasn’t quite heavy enough. But my dad and I have also used a 10+ pound boat anchor and it worked great. I just didn’t want to carry it very far with the rest of my gear.

@@KayakKid yeah thats what we use too on ours. My buddy has one of the motion duck spreader rigs we use alot. I really like them too but man they are way over priced for this broke bastard lol. So ur way.....cheap and effective is perfect.
