just discovered your matcha mastered channel. i dont know if you have mentioned this or not. Nowadays there are so many milk options for matcha latte. AND...this choice will change your enjoyment greatly for sweetness, smoothness and creaminess. matcha latte is a modern day drink mix. if anyone who is serious about matcha, must try without milk. Or attend a traditional matcha ceremony.👍 thanks for your videos.👏

Great content, I really think this is helpful for matcha newbies or people like myself, who mainly drink it straight (water only) but may want to try a latte every now and then. I've gotten a matcha latte a few times at a cafe only to find it's really lacking in flavor, so I prefer to make my own. Regarding milk to matcha ratios, does it matter what type of milk you're using? I personally do not drink dairy so I wonder if you've personally tried other milks like soy, almond, oat, for example. Oat milk is also naturally sweet, so some people may not even need to use sugar/sweetener in their drink. Also, you're right that most "culinary" matcha brands are terrible. However, this type of branding is seen in markets outside of Japan. I never see it labeled "culinary" or "ceremonial" in Japan, you just have to test it out, lol. I'm also not entirely sure you need to purchase the higher tiered blend like Ippodo's Ummon to get a decent matcha latte, imho. I think most people would be happy with the Horai/Sayaka or even the more budget friendly Wakaki or Hatsu for a stronger matcha flavor, especially when they're adding milk and sweetener anyway. Of course taste is subjective, lol.
@dougdoesdelicious8 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kinds words! and yes the flavor and ratios can change depending on which kinds of milk you use. I've found that whole milk, while deliciously creamy, mutes the matcha flavor the most out of all types of milk, so it will require the highest amounts of matcha. But, for other milks like almond, soy, or oat, you should taste a remarkably stronger matcha flavor when using the ratios I mentioned, so feel free to adjust them!

Great video. It's funny that you showed Matcha Cafe Maiko in your video towards the end when you were talking about powedery or diluted matcha. Do you dislike Maiko? Their matcha powder is actually one of the best I've tried for lattes and a good deal compared to importing Marukyu Koyamaen or Ippodo.
@dougdoesdelicious3 ай бұрын
I think Cafe Maikos ice cream is quite good, but the lattes I’ve experienced at my local store are incredibly subpar, premixed in a jug and overly sweetened. I think the biggest bang for your buck is still Ippodo (cause of free shipping and also available on Amazon). even their more affordable matcha are already very very good for lattes like Wakaki and Ikuyo. For example, Wakaki goes for $13 for 40g, which would give you enough matcha for 13 lattes at about $1 per drink, and the resulting latte is much better than the $5 latte at Cafe Maiko

@@dougdoesdelicious Awesome, I’m enjoying an Ikuyo latte as I respond. I’ll have to try Wakaki. Which are your personal favorite matchas for lattes from Marukyu Koyamaen? Thanks!

Look up cold whisk matcha latte. it's when you whisk the matcha directly into the milk. that way you'll reduce the risk of the latte tastes not as strong or too watered down. The issue with this method is just that you need to add the milk little by little, if not the milk will clump up the matcha powder.

Hey! Where did you get your glass for your 200ml drink? I like the inverted bit on the bottom
@dougdoesdelicious8 күн бұрын
I bought it in Japan at a store called Sugahara (Sghr) when I was visiting! My favorite glass store I’ve found so far. They ship globally but it’s like 3x more expensive buying online than in store unfortunately 🥲

Thanks for responding! You have good taste. But damn I literally just got back from Japan last week!! Added it to my Google maps list now.

can I prepare it without using hot water if i’m making it cold? or will it effect the flavor
@dougdoesdelicious25 күн бұрын
Traditionally speaking, hot water is always used, but normally when I make an iced matcha latte I’ll add 40g of ice after whisking the matcha in 60g of hot water, which comes out great for an iced drink. In the cafes in Japan, they don’t even bother cooling the matcha, they just pour in the hot matcha over the cold milk and ice - again, comes out great. But that said, I’ve tried cold whisking once and found that to be completely acceptable too, so you can definitely try it with cold water / cold milk.

OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I can't wait to start making matcha lattes >:D One question, how much sugar do you recommend using?
@dougdoesdelicious Жыл бұрын
Haha no problem, I hope the instructions are clear! For sugar it depends on preference, but I only like mines lightly sweet so I only put about 3 - 5 grams of brown sugar. So about 1 teaspoon max!
