This is such a fun, quick sewing project! And the finished hat is super cute! Initially, I was concerned about cutting notches into the elastic casing, but it all comes together beautifully in the end. Made a polar fleece pom-pom, but will eventually pick up some faux fur and give that a whirl. Thanks for sharing your fantastic pattern!

I just use a straight stitch but you can use a stretchy one if you are concerned! Thanks for watching, Tori

I use my basic everyday needle but I will have to get back to you about the number. I used a straight stitch and most of the important sewing ends up just being up and down (,the back) and across the top where the stretch is not an issue! Hope that helps...Tori

Of course! Leave the yarn ends long enough to put through the top of the hat and to loop into the tab inside the hat!

Hi Karen ... I use a product called Poly Plus 65/2 from Cansew. It is 100% polyester. I have always used this thread. Decades of using this thread!

No I have not made this for a newborn but I have a baby beanie hat video on this channel which would be great for newborns if you use a cotton knit.

Karen this is designed for the child that is older. Heads grow so fast in the first year. I have some more hats coming up that are designed for the littles that are babies and pre school!
