WITCHY TIP: you can lightly draw sigils into the bottom crust as you’re making the pie! And even put runes or sigils on your wooden cooking spoons. And as you add in your ingredients, you can focus on an intention you want to bring for example cinnamon can be for healing, warmth, protection or sensuality, and apples are for love, family luck, prosperity. :3 pretty much everything around us is full of magick, because we are magick.

I recommend replacing the lemon juice with apple cider vinegar, it's doing the exact same thing as lemon juice (preventing browning and adding acidity to break up the sweetness) but it's extra apple-ly! This creates the illusion of the apple being even juicier too.

This pie looks amazing Annie! I'm definitely going to try it. One thing - if you have hot hands like me, what I like to do is almost freeze the butter, then grate it with a box/cheese grater. It gets smaller than dicing and incorporates even more air into the butter by forcing it through. Plus! Quicker, so it stays colder longer. But that saucy addition, so perfect!
@aurorapapillon48834 жыл бұрын
Tip for the crumble topping: When making apple crumble I add a pinch of bicarb to my crumble mix, this helps it expand into those delightful crunchy lumps of pastry, I also use brown sugar instead of white everytime because I like the richness it brings. Be mindful not to break it all to finely, you want a few chunky bits.
@ThatMissQuin4 жыл бұрын
did i miss the part where the crumble topping is explained?
@sherann65643 жыл бұрын
Aurora, what is bicarb?
@aurorapapillon48833 жыл бұрын
@@sherann6564 It's the short name for Bicarbonate of Soda, it's a leavening agent, the ingredient that makes self-raising flour self-raising. It's also commonly used with vinegar to make science project lava. You can find this in the baking aisle, it's also great tenderising meat and for removing stains and odours, the catch is its highly alkaline so you don't want too much or your food won't taste good.

Made the pie, it was an absolute delight. I actually added a half cup of caramel and a forth cup honey when making it a second time, it ended up being a nice touch to the recipe. A way I found that made making the pastry puff easier without over melting the butter was using a potato masher. It took a little longer but it made the crust much more flakey in the end, much better than my first attempt. When making this it helped me rediscover my love of baking, planning to both make some of your other recipes and serve them to friends and family.

I know this is a little older and you said the crumble was the part you wanted to work on...but...whenever I make apple pie I always use at least 2 different kinds of apples - one tart and one sweet - and I recommend you try it, too. The last pie I made had Granny Smith, Gala, and Macintosh. The green apples are tart and hold together well, the Gala are sweet and softwn nicely, and the Mac apples mush into near applesauce while cooking, and it just adds more texture to the pie. I love your recipe, though! Thanks for sharing. I also love the way you do the top layer of crust - I used to do the classic full crust but I love yours much more and will do it that way from now on. Beautiful!

Hi! I also made the pie and it was really great. I had one issue however: I got a lot of juice from draining the apples and it was difficult to know how long I should cook it. I made the pie twice and the jelly was seeping out (more or less) when cutting the cake and it didn't really remain sort of solid between the apple chips.
