I did use Cointreau, and skipped the egg (because I didn’t have any in the fridge), and it came out good - Surprised how toned-down the gin was (even without the egg). It’s nice - better than any martini.

First time I made a White Lady I fell in love with it. Such a wonderful cocktail. I am aching to try it with a Greek gin ("Old Sport"), which has hints of mastic in it. I think it will go really well in it.

Great video again! It"s great that you are showing us the variety of Australian alcohol. It's a pity lots of it is unavailable or way to expensive abroad! This knowledge and your videos are highly appreciated though. Stay safe and Cheers!

Thank you! I know, it’s a difficult balance because I always want to showcase the local booze that I love, but understand it’s not going to be available everywhere. I try to give enough information and alternatives for people to feel confident making substitutions- something like Tanqueray Sevilla would work really well here as it also has that orange influence 🍊😊
@TheTribalBarGuy4 жыл бұрын
@@BehindtheBar Yeah I was also thinking to try and substitute for Tanqueray Seville. And despite the difficulties after seeing your video the other day I am really determined to get my hands on a bottle of the Australian Green Ant gin. That really had a WOW effect on me. Looking forward to your next video and tips. Take care!

In HalfMoon Bay Ca.The Moss Beach distillery is haunted by the “Blue Lady”. I make a variation of the White Lady but sub the Cointreau for Blue Curacoa to get the color right and honor the ghost

The original recipe doesn’t call for a garnish. And egg white only appeared in later recipes, not in the Savoj version. Back in the early 2000s when you ordered a white lady in London they would make it the original way, no one used eggs, but nowadays you need to specify if you want it without egg white. I do agree it gives the drink a nice silky texture, but I still prefer the older version.

I normally use Pierre ferrand dry curaçao, how at comprare to marionette in terms of sweetness. Haven’t made this drink yet, trying to figure out about how much syrup to put in
@BehindtheBar4 жыл бұрын
I’d say they’re about the same level of sweetness (both leaning on the drier side) but the Pierre Ferrand is a bit weightier being cognac based (Marionette is blended with neutral grain and brandy so a little fresher and zestier). I wouldn’t think you’d have to adjust the ratio, it will still be delicious!

Have you ever done reverse dry shaking for any of these egg white cocktails? Is there a benefit to that method over the standard method?
@BehindtheBar4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jay! I actually have a bit of a chat about this in the whiskey sour video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/foampJ-sfc-qpas The argument is that adding the ice afterwards actually breaks down your foam, but to be honest I find the reverse dry shake a bit messy and annoying, and I always get a good head doing a normal dry shake so I haven’t bothered switching. It’s probably more scientifically correct though, I just find it hard to break the habit haha

Kind of a tangent, in one of the other videos featuring gin you mentioned Hendricks by saying "Cara doesn't drink that swill." I'm curious what's bad about it. I've just recently gotten to like gin, after a lifetime of thinking I hated it and it tasted like Pine-Sol.
@BehindtheBar4 жыл бұрын
There’s absolutely nothing bad about it, it’s a great gin! My editor was just teasing me because I chose Martin Miller’s over the more obvious Hendrick’s, but that is just because Hendrick’s have done such an awesome job of marketing themselves that most people already know if they like it. I thought I’d try introducing something that people might not have heard of before! The ‘Pine-Sol’ note that you’re talking about is the juniper, which can be a love it or hate it thing. Hendricks is part of a movement of gins which use lighter, more floral botanicals and dial back the juniper. If you let me know where you’re situated I can suggest some other local ones in a similar style 😊

Hey Eric, Josh here (behind the camera, not the bar). It was a bit of a joke because while filming I asked Cara what she thought of Hendricks and if it was a good substitution she was very coy about it but wouldn't tell me why. So yes, a bit of teasing on my part but I think there's something to it!!
@jrgzenrn35314 жыл бұрын
Knickerbocker by New Holland out of Michigan and Rehorst Barrel Aged Gin by Great Lakes Distillery out of Wisconsin are both great Midwestern gins and good in a gimlet or a sour. Neither is particularly juniper forward. Botanivore Gin by St. George out of California is a very juniper-forward gin, but is nicely balanced by the other botanicals. It’s great in a Negroni. Your mileage may vary.
