I recently saw ‪@MarkWiens‬ video about Tibetan specialties and I was very happy that our culture gained so much attention. This time, I will be showing you how to make a delicious Tibetan Butter Tea. It is a tea with over 1000 years of history and tradition.
Ingredients:
2g Tibetan brick tea (replaceable with Pu'Er tea)
1.5 liter water
50g butter
50ml milk
5g salt

Something I forgot to mention: If you're using fresh milk, you need to boil it first. In Europe, the milk from the supermarket is already pasteurized, so no need for that.

Thank you for sharing. However one thing I want to push back on. Raw milk is actually how milk is supposed to be consumed imo, I'm lactose intolerant when drinking pasteurized milk, I started drinking raw milk on raw food recommendation nutritionists and not only am I not lactose intolerant when drinking raw milk it actually makes me feel good! It took me some time to drink because I was worried about poisining etc but it turns out raw milk has the enzymes we need to digest it, when pasteurized it kills the enzymes making it hard to digest for some people. Thanks again 🙏

Thanks for sharing! My mum used ghee ( purified butter) instead of butter. That adds the special flavour of butter tea which is so soothing and comforting not only to our stomach but also to our soul.

I wonder how it tastes like? Since there is no sugar added into the recipe, only butter (unsalted, I am assuming), milk, and salt, I suppose it would taste simply creamy, herby, and a bit of salty?
@richardmccabe2392
@richardmccabe2392 2 жыл бұрын
I'm drinking some right now for the first time, yes it's creamy, bit salty, but also earthy if you use pu-eurh tea which is the one that Tibetans use. I have a bit of a sweet tooth, but I feel like making it sweet would ruin the warm home-y feeling you get when you drink it. It's really nice.

Thank you for the recipe, butter tea always brings back impressions and memories from Lhasa as a kid. Going to the shoddy amusement park in the lukang where you could ride a camel and go on flimsy carousel-like things and the zoo at norbulinka (which in retrospect wasn't the nicest zoo hahaha). Best wishes

So how is it that salt is used with MILK? I have read that milk with salt combination brings such inauspicious sickness as leprosy....anyways, ghee or butter is different from milk, and I make butter tea with only butter. I use straight cinnamon instead of various other teas mentioned. It is very yummy. Thank you so much.🙏🏾
