I AM GOING TO CRY OF HAPPINESS. So last year at the end of August, I bought a venus flytrap after my first one died. (I think it was already dying when I bought it). I didnt have good soil then and later bought moss. Then winter came and I was so scared of them dying. Especially after I accidentally let them dry too much, but winter is over now and today I noticed new leafes growing. I am so happy. I wanted to say this because I could not have done it without the help of your videos. Thank you :]

Thanks for the education on how to care for a venus flytrap. I bought one from the grocery store and saw that it didn't have the red color so I was scowering KZbin to see if I had a not so healthy one or what the issue was. I know now to keep it outside in the sun so it can get the nurturance it needs to stay healthy. I really appreciate all the tips.

Beautiful flytraps. I'm growing my first red cultivar now. Maybe a strange question but how do you get that nice moss growing in your pots? I've manually put some in some of my pots and it never seems to take, despite them having lots of light and constant moisture..
@CarnivorousPlantsHub7 ай бұрын
I think it depends on the moss. A lot of the moss on mine is a star moss that comes on plants shipped from California Carnivores. Sometimes, with enough moisture the peat will sprout some live sphagnum moss. It really just depends on the type of moss. The star moss from calcarn really does well. It can be a deterrent though, once the moss gets really long. It can interfere with the plants a bit.

Great video man. I think that too much light (high UVs) and high temps can discoloration flytraps ,sarracenias and very other plant that is not used to these conditios, different from their natural habitat. The sun is different ( the amount, intensity) in Carolinas compare to Greek sun or the mediterranean one. Low temps boost coloration also.
@CarnivorousPlantsHub3 ай бұрын
I do beleive that ad will, especially when it's the normal exposure for the plant. They can get too much sun that is too hot and it not be good for them.

Hey, I recently got a 600W SANSI 4Gooseneck LED Grow Light. I only have a single plant, but after some research found out my previous grow light was essentially useless. I was wondering if you had any insight on how to set it up. Does it need all 4 bulbs on it? How far away should they be from the plant? I’ve searched high and low for info but can’t find any specific to this setup. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
@CarnivorousPlantsHub4 ай бұрын
This light puts out about 10 watts per bulb. I'd recommend 2 or 3 per one plant. Thag would probably be good enough for 3 or 4 plants huddled together close.

I love your Chanel thank you. I'm new and in Australia. It's really difficult to get the balance right. Your videos have been a lifesaver! I haven't checked yet so forgive me if you've already covered it, but mine seem to turn yellow but not red. They aren't that nice green anymore, but they're getting full sun out on my open balcony for about half the day and then just some shaded sun for the other half, I had trouble with overwatering them in the beginning and nearly lost one to crown rot, but it's making a comeback. I normally try to keep them with a bit of water that drains in a day or two. It is winter here, so I'm hoping it's just because it's colder than usual. But any advice on why mine look less green would be great!
@CarnivorousPlantsHub5 ай бұрын
Sometimes when the older leaves are acclimating they will turnish a yellowish as they die back. Are there new traps coming up? If so, they should be a healthier shade of green.
@liehann1197 ай бұрын
does pinkish purple light helps to boost the redness? And does it take time for vfts to get used to the strong lighting? my vfts have burns when i placed the light 2 inch above them, will this change?
@CarnivorousPlantsHub7 ай бұрын
I'm not a grow light expert, so I don't know all the outputs and the main differences between the purple lights vs the white lights. My understanding is that the bigger factor is the wattage output and lumens. I can confirm that lights will burn venus flytraps, especially at only 2 inches above the plant. Typically, you should be at least 6 inches. I'm rarely closer to the plant than 8 inches. Venus flytraps can take a few weeks to acclimate to a stronger source of light. I actually just did a video that touches on all this a bit, which was why I didn't talk a lot about it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4WodGuerdSCac0si=ufc-KRE5b8MJpGlt

So it's not too much light when it turns very red? Great! I've been wondering about that. I have noticed how the plants under the brightest light (growth lamps) turn red easily, whereas the ones in less light remain green. Also my pinguicula carnivorous plant does this. It turns pinkish red when in bright light, but remains pale green in less light.
@CarnivorousPlantsHub7 ай бұрын
Yes! That's 100% correct. If there is too much light it will be more of a brown burnt loom. Usually appears on the edge of the leaves first. Most carnivorous plants color up under good light! Including pings.

Should you remove the bodies from the traps?
@CarnivorousPlantsHub7 ай бұрын
Ya, once they turn all black, they aren't helping anything. Just promote mold and mildew. Just be careful when removing, sometimes they are still attached pretty good to the rhizome. Gentle tug, if it doesn't come out, cut at the base!
@CarnivorousPlantsHub7 ай бұрын
Woops, I misread your question, sorry. No, I don't remove the exoskeleton from the traps. You can trigger it to close. They will often fall or blow out. It's okay for the trap to close on it again with another insect in the trap.

Hi, when I try to give more light the leaf gets black. What will be the reason behind this?
@CarnivorousPlantsHub6 ай бұрын
That's strange. Light wouldn't turn a leaf black. It would turn it red, then brown then eventually black from too much light. Going straight to black means there is a different underlying issue. It's hard to diagnose without photos and a full breakdown of care.

Hi my Venus fly trap head always grow red but slowly goes green what that means
@JackChaney6667 ай бұрын
I'm in arizona. Its hot, I grow my flytraps on a shelf outside in the shade with lights. They're struggling and its extremely dry here so identifying the problem has been rough. I have it down to the only contingency on my traps being the soil Ph, its 2 notches away from where it should be, its towards alkaline, so my traps aren't nearly as pretty. I used miracle grow soil with perlite, I ran water through it for a while to clean it, its just what I had. Traps are struggling but are much better than they were when I used water from our fridge. Now using distilled and top watering every now and again along with tray method. They're send up new shoots and splitting new clones but, Will being a little towards alkaline along with the miracle grow slowly kill my plants? They were struggling but its slowing down now with the different water.
@CarnivorousPlantsHub7 ай бұрын
Yes. It will slowly kill them. The fertilizer in miracle grow peat is a slow death, even if you rinse it. They do like a more acidic soil, so leaning toward alkaline is bad for them. I would guess that if not replanted soon into a 100% pure sphagnum peat moss or long fiber sphagnum moss (orchid moss at home depot or lowes) they will likely not make it.
