This ham is delicious! Vietnamese ham is used frequently in Banh Mi sandwiches among other things. Don't bother purchasing them when you can make them for yourself at home!

The reason why they use banana leaves, is because it brings out that beautiful and interesting flavor in the ham. This recipe was quite simple, glad that you shared it! ;)

I’m glad I saw this version bc I found a written recipe that tells you to pound the meat in a mortar and pestle, bc it gives it a better texture than using a food processor ... who wrote that has wasted a lot of their life pounding pork by hand 😂.

I will have to try this, it looks so good. The trick with banana leaves is that you need to quickly pass them over a flame, they will soften up and be very pliable.

Hi, I liked ur video and presentation. Just wanted to ask what is the purpose of using cling film for wrapping when you can use muslin cloth? And lastly how long can it be kept in the fridge after preparation cos I see you havnt used any preservative or curing salts

a metal colander inside a pot, make sure the water doesn't touch the colander or if you don't have a colander put some equal size aluminum balls in a pot then place a metal plate in the middle, fill with water up to just below the plate and vol-la, a makeshift steamer.

To keep a uniform shape, cut both ends of an empty aluminum soup can and insert the saran wrapped pork inside and steam together. Use ground pork, cheaper than tenderloin.

I didn't know this was a Vietnamese thing. Thinking about tofu, like... I know that's an Asian thing. But I don't remember eating tofu at all. Only this ham... As of now, I realized it's not even tofu. I went to Asian grocery store & asked if they have to tofu ham... They were out. But knew what I was talking about. I think Asians, especially older ones look at me like ,"🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♂️I swear these younger generation s are so Americanized... " What my parents always used to say. Still echoes in my head. To some extent, true that. But what'd you expect?... But hey? I came back didn't I? I love yt... It's good for reminiscent thoughts and to verify that you didn't actually just imagine things. Hi childhood "ham." No, I didn't forget about you! I grew up on this stuff 🤗. Even tho I clearly remember my parents not acting to fond of the vietnamese. I'm Lao. We ate this w/ stick rice, sweet chilli sauce/ papaya salad all the time 😋. Bout to do the same thing now.

I don't think I ate this as a youngen... 🤔🤷🏻‍♀️. I don't recall Asian ham tasting like pork. It just always tasted like flavored tofu. Or maybe it is, idk. Never watched my mom make it or anything. I do remember the raw pork that alwayscame w/ chilli peppers tho.
