My husband & I hardly ever have a lot of fresh veggies & fruits on hand, but my 20 year old Amazon parrot, George, is showing signs of less-than-perfect health. This channel was recommended to me by a friend and I so appreciate it! I am going to start doing this for my George. He deserves it! New sub here. x0x0

I put the chop into ice cube trays and freeze it, the store the cubes in a freezer bowl. Lasts a month or so.

I also mix chop fresh every few days as my green cheeks dislike thawed, mushy greens and veggies. I do, however, prepare a soak and simmer bean/grain mix in. advance and then I spread that out on a cookie sheet and dry it on low heat in the oven (just want to dry the surface of the beans and grains) prior to freezing. Doing the surface drying step ensures that the mix does not freeze as a solid block. I mix in organic frozen peas and corn with this bean/grain mix. I fill a small dish from the frozen bag each evening and put in the fridge so it is thawed by morning and can be added to the fresh veggie/green/under-ripe fruit mix.

I'm so glad! Kiwi loves his fresh foods. If your bird doesn't readily jump at chop, don't despair...keep trying!

My Conor parrot is a rescue. He was not taken care of for 8 years or so. He will not step up or have anything to do with me. Except when I feed him and clean his cage. He will not come out of his enclosure. And I think he was tormented with a broom.

What type of seeds can be added to the chop to attract them more to the chop / also where do you buy your seeds
@kiwiscorner38322 жыл бұрын
I add chia seeds to my chop. I get them at ALdi's or the local organic store. For help seeds (unhulled) I just go onto amazon/online ad search...trying to go organic. I have bought safflower and black sunflower seeds from Harrisons...and i've been happy with them!

Is it okay if pet birds eat conventional produce? In other words, produce that is not organic?
@zacharydaniels7041 Жыл бұрын
I would say yes , buy what you can afford but if you are able and willing by all means spend a lil more for hopefully what should be a higher quality product.

How are you storing that to keep for the week?
@kiwiscorner38323 жыл бұрын
I put it in an airtight container and keep it in the fridge. We have no problem with it staying fresh for the week...and in fact have once or twice gone a day or so past the week mark!

Hello! So I just got my green cheek a couple months ago, and he is very timid. Every time I reach my hand close to him he runs away. When I open the cage, he’ll come out and wander around, but I catch hell putting him back in. When my sun conure is sitting on my shoulder, he has flown up on to my shoulder to be by her, but other than that, he doesn’t like anyone near him. What can I do?
@stricklyfashion3 жыл бұрын
Also, I should add that my sun conure hates him. Lol

Time and patience. I started very small with offering treats through the cage bars when he was in the cage. Luckily he accepted them from my fingers.....otherwise put it on a stick or a spoon and offer the treat that he loves that way so that he can get used to you being the 'snack lady'. Slowly progress closer and closer to your goal. He will figure it out!

ahhh poor baby hated by what he thinks of as his flock!

I never understood all the videos here looks way more then a parrot can eat in one time and the veggies get spoiled so why so much?!
@LiaOn4Pawz4 ай бұрын
So basically if you add a lot of veggie chop you can put the rest in the freezer for another day! And this can go on till the veggies are gone! ❤

What can I do if my green cheek won’t eat or transfer to any new food?
@kiwiscorner38323 жыл бұрын
We used the method of sprinkling Harrisons Mash on top of his seeds...because he was on a seed diet when we got him....the mash is tasty to them. Once he got used to that we started to sprinkle the mash on his pellets....and then his chop. He would eat the pellets and the chop because it tasted like his yummy mash. We then started reducing the seeds until he was eating good stuff only and no more seed mixture. THEN we slowly started decreasing the mash that we sprinkled! It is a long process..but it was worth it!!!
