They are very posh for you mate , lol . I would personally called them formers but in my studio they are known as a couple of house bricks that do the job very nicely. :)

Everything I looked at said what you were building was a box jig. www.rockler.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/720x720/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/w/j/wj038-Box-Joint-Jig.jpg but I thought you might like this tool as well. www.zoro.com/bessey-angle-clamp-90-deg-corner-zinc-3-in-cap-ws-1/i/G4406753/

Mel, with 100% certainty the device you have made is called a Box Jig, they are commonly used in woodworking. I also had to make 4 of these for a school project (back when i was an idiot type teenager!) the tutor there said that there are many different types that serve very similar purposes but are technically called the same thing.

Hey Mel...thank you so much for this video!!! I've been looking for an easy way to make a jig for my Proxxon hot wire foam cutter to replace the lousy fence that comes with it. I'm NOT a wood-worker! As soon as I saw this video, I realized it would work perfectly for my purposes. Picked up the EPVC board the other day, started cutting last night, and should have it done in the next day or so! Hoping to post a video to help other folks make a jig specific for what I need out of this material...will give you the credit! Thanks again, mate!

Mel, in woodworking they are called jigs. One point about your two little triangle pieces, they are not guaranteed to be 90 because one of the edges that form the triangle was made from the cut edge where you cut it in half. If that halving cut was not made at 90 then your triangle will not be at 90! If you did your black line like you did for the second one only one side of triangle would have the black line. Not critical as long as you rely on the Lego block for the 90.

Ah, actually, those corners were cut from machined corners, the unmachined corners were cut off for cosmetics and just thrown in my bits box mate. So, based on what you saw, yes, you're right but that's down to me not been clearer mate

As far as keeping track of what parts go where, i use a letter/number scheme (level/piece) and label them all on the bottom. Be sure to always flip them the same direction and orientation when you do!

I'd call the straight one a fence Mel. These are NOT one two three blocks. I made a pair of those for machining. It a couple of solid steel blocks 1"x2"x3" and they are used to lift the workpiece off the table, keeping it absolutely parallel to the table so it can be machined without the cutter damaging the table. The ones I made have many holes drilled thru them so that you can bolt them together in a multitude of fashions. Like making a square corner for example. Nice little video, handy gadgets indeed.

In carpentry we call those sort of handy little helpers jigs. Different jigs help "guide" saws and blades for specific things like straight edges, dovetail grooves, cut depths, etc. This may be regional language but I know they are labelled as such in hardware stores as well. Hope this helps.

Your question has been answered (box jig), but I'll commend to your attention the following tools (which can be found in the usual way, though I won't give links, as they'd probably be to US sources: Speed Square (inexpensive, heavy enough to stay in place, and they stand on a table by themselves) Corner clamps/Box clamps Box clamping jig Precision steel 1-2-3 blocks (the good ones can be bolted together in many ways, but they're not especially cheap) It turns out that straight, plumb, and true has been a manufacturing goal for a while now, so there are lots of tools that are already available and a bit more durable than expanded PVC. 8-)
