It's ecoboard mate, hdf, B&Q used to sell it but they dropped it down to £2 a 2x4' sheet when they discontinued it, so I bought all my local store had. It's all stacking 8 sheets high across the attic :-D

Great Job Mel, hadn't thought of using the wife's trowels before ;) With the piping bag, you can use a ziplock bag too. Just add filler, add paint, mix, nip the tip of a corner and Bobs your uncle, you're piping

The plastic things you mentioned are called Palette Knives and most oil painters do use them to almost sculpt the oil paint. I've painted entire paintings with them. They are great! Oil painting is 1 part painting and 1 part sculpting, at least that's how I think of it. Anyway, great show as always! Cheers!

Nice one Mel :) I think there are a few different names for those tools depending on who you ask... Artist spatula, trowel or palette knife to name a few :) Great tips!

great tutorial :) I can't wear gloves when I'm doing things like that because I like to feel what I'm doing, I'll definitely try the icing bag method when I make my diorama

any benefit to the "lightweight" spackle? It was recommeneded to me for display boards but doesnt seem to dry hard. Also I love Mel! "I got me a spoon, I got me some filler" There is noone happier then mel with unfinished terrain.

hiya Mel great tip!!! I like to ask a question if I may ? I have got the games workshop modular gaming board and I am making a river for it. I would like to make a river section that flows down the hill of the modular board. I was thinking after watching you do the cliff walls using foil. that I could mold some foil over the contour of the hill and use bandage and plaster of paris to make my river . then let it dry completely and then use filler to smooth the river out and then the usual build up the banks with air dry clay and then finish it off with texture and flocking and painting . what you think ? is there an easier way ? your thought are much appreciated :) .thank you !

Think more waterfalls than rivers going down banks mate ;-)

i am doing a water fall but I need a way to mould the base of the river/waterfall to the contours of the gaming board hill that's already done . I am making a modular river to run down the centre of the games workshop citadel battleboard and I want the modular river to start at the top of the hill so I can do a waterfall down the hill to meet up with the flat parts of the river. GW battleboard is 8 x (2' x 2') with a moulded hill in 4 of the 8 boards. I hope I have explained it a bit better lol. I am buying some styrene to try and mould the water fall and build the top of the river section . I am going to incorporate an eleven bridge and gate and build it quite rocky . fingers crossed . it might be a bit easier than using plaster to mould the slope. thanks forgetting back to me . I am also planning out laketown 4 x (2' x 2') boards all covered in water with a town built on walkways and platforms . any tips on the water boards . I will make 1 2' x 2' board using water effects just to try see how it comes out as I have never used water effects before. but cheaper the better as long as it looks affective!

Hey, nice video!!! Just found your channel a week ago and i watched almost two full playlists :D I just have one question, is there any difference at the time of building between what i think is filler(i am from spain so i cant exaclty know if its filler :/ ) and what seems to be "plastic filler"?? because i got some "plastic filler" in my basement. Im planning to start this hobby this next summer thanks to your videos :D
@TheTerrainTutor
@TheTerrainTutor 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, ones an acrylic paste and one is a plaster powder base. Go with the plaster option, spackle/joint compound
