For others viewing this : After you remove the debris, it is a good idea to spray a cleaner like the simple green or purple power, or any kind of dirt remover, and just spray the evaporator down, as well as the entire ventilation chamber. and then rinse it with water, all of that liquid will drain out of the drip tube out through the firewall. This helps even more. I had to do this on my 1990 K 1500, and it helped tremendously. And be careful spraying water in there that you don't spray too hard, cause it could damage the fans which are basically just like a radiator or heater core type. They can be bent easily. Also make sure the gasket for the blower is intact. Or replace it. Otherwise it will leak air and not blow as forcibly out your vents.

And if you tried cleaning your evaporator, as well as flushing out the entire chamber, and your air conditioning is still dripping onto your passenger floorboard, this likely means you need to replace pretty much all of your air conditioning unit in the engine compartment. It probably means your dryer / accumulator is worn out, but if you're going to start replacing that, you might as well replace everything else in the engine compartment relating to your air conditioning system. I noticed that the top of the evaporator chamber was frozen on mine. But after I replaced the compressor, condenser, dryer, and all hoses in the engine compartment, the problem went away. I know it sounds like a lot. But if your vehicle is 20 or 30 years old, and your air conditioning system is still original, it is probably time to replace all of it. My 30 year old truck now will freeze me out of it even if it is 95 degrees outside. I am tickled to death that it works so well now. Check out my other videos and I have all kinds of more info about it.

I used a bamboo skewer to feel around the corners inside the chamber with the heater core, abd found it was bigger than i expected and filled with tree debris. I pulled out as much as i could, flushed the core out with foaming bore cleaner and washed it out with the hose. I trsted to be sure it would drain. Thanks again, dude. I guess i dont need all this refrigerant now.

Consider instead of degrease and water, set vent setting knob to face/upper body, take dash off, take all vent registers off and plug all but center one with rags, take blower motor out and get in there with appropriate brush and while brushing put nozzle of strong leaf blower into center nozzle. While you're brushing all the stuff you knock off will blow out toward you. I did this and got a perfectly clean evaporator.

The drain hose is on the other side behind the firewall in the engine compartment. But I can guarantee you, if that is clogged, you have more issues inside the evaporator chamber which is underneath the dash behind where the blower is located. I had to do this as well. And that area was loaded with Pineneedles and leaves and debris and what not. Not easy to get to. See my video on how I did it.

One of your flapper doors may be stuck partially shut. Bang your hand against the area and a lot of times itll pop back fully open. If that doesn't work youll have to take glove box out and check ducting. It can also be a worn blower motor resistor

@@JonnyDIY Thank you for your reply. I just checked it now and everything is fine. As you said I strongly doubt it's caused by the flapper door malfunction. As the blower sounds (air blowing sound) to be responsive always when I turn the fan speed knob, the resistor should be fine rite ?

Does anyone know what might be causing this knocking/grinding sound behind the blower? There's a flap that opens and closes to switch from circulating cabin air to pulling fresh outside air. It almost sounds like it's still trying to close even though it's closed. And it makes this knocking grinding sound. Someone in the comments mentioned the blend door actuator, but that's not close enough to the sound. Thanks in advance!

@JonnyDIY

No I wouldn't think so. But maybe you jostled another ground to computer etc. I would double back over all your work and check all connections, then check battery cable connections. Make sure theyre all tight. If you have side posts on battery I would check those. Ive had issues with those preventing truck from starting. And had to disconnect them and clean and reattach them. Even though they were tight it still wouldn't start til I removed and re clamped. Start simple. Also if you have an alarm system sometimes that can act up

Having the AC blow harder doesn't necessarily mean it blows colder. It only absorbs and rejects so much heat out of the coil and by increasing CFM it's just going to blow more warmer air.

When an evap coil is blocked it will freeze up and shut the a/c off due to evap temp sensor. So by cleaning the coil and allowing more airflow the temperature would actually decrease because the system stays running without freeze up.

Loud ticking noises could just be debris inside your evaporator chamber which means you have leaves and Pineneedles and what not touching the blades of your blower. This is how mine was. And I thought my fan was ruined. But it was really just all the debris inside the evaporator chamber. What you need to completely clean out to do this job correctly. Otherwise you will have to go back in there again. No thank you.
