My car has the same button press for the knob to change gears, if you didn't use an adapter how did you attach a knob with no button and it still managed to be pushed down?

You push the knob down which acts like the button and it’s spring loaded so when you let go it’s like the button is not being pressed

While I will always prefer manual over an automatic there are times where either an automatic is all you can find, or it’s like me where it’s my daily car and I’d prefer automatic in stop and go traffic.. I do plan on swapping over one day to a manual transmission just once I have to rebuild the engine cuz I’m tryin to keep my Impreza stock cuz it’s so old 😂

I got a 06 impreza as well, I haven’t did anything crazy but change the wheels, got a greddy exhaust from a manual. But other than that nun else. But I do plan on swapping it one day.

So I'm confused, the original shift knob has the push button which I'm pretty sure locks your gearing In place, I watched two videos, one person who had an automatic and did an aftermarket shift knob had a push button and yours without one, I could care less what anyone thinks, the push button is my main concern, I have mad OCD and don't want my car going into reverse at like 60mph, I have a knob, but kinda don't mind the OEM considering everything else I did to the inside, but the aftermarket one would be way more clean, so the button just just basically pushes the rod down. Locking your gearing place, so basically if you don't get an automatic shift knob that goes down to touch the rod to lock it into gearing, it won't work? Mmm sounds pretty sketchy. I don't know now

The button on your original shift knob is doing the same thing. Pushing down on the aftermarket one is just replacing that button. That's all

The adapter makes it where you just push the whole knob down rather than push a button. Also, most cars newer than like 1990 won't actually go into reverse if you're going over a certain speed, even if you push the knob into reverse due to the computer controlling the transmission.
