I cut the windy handles off and welded nuts to the shafts so you can use a 19mm on a drill to wind the legs up and down quicker.. 👌

My dad did this. He build a custom trailer and a custom jack system like that so that he could use the trailer normally and then have a canopy type thing with all the necessary camping stuff. Sick vid 👍🏼

quick hack for lift-off. Air bags in the rear suspension. Pump up the bags, wind legs to ground level, then drop the air out of the bags. you should now be able to drive straight out from under. do the same in reverse to get the canopy back on.

i'm looking at making a canopy to fit my box trailer that can be easily removed, this has given me some great ideas. and saved me a bit of time learning from your mistakes lol cheers Sam keep up the good work

This is awesome. Me and Dad are looking into building a similar setup. We have a pop up trailer tent so we are building a aluminium box that fits in the trailer with the tent on top of it. So we can leave all the camping stuff in it and have a box trailer and camper trailer in one.

You should put a half canopy so it’s not so top heavy and put you spare tyres on the back of the canopy. Keep up the good work love it.

The only thing I can suggest is maybe put some pins in where the legs slide in to the canopy so that stops anyone accidnetly pulling one leg out and tipping the canopy over. Only say so because my mate had same thing happen to him and it didn't take much someone walked past and hit the leg and the leg came out and over the canopy went

Love your work. My parent in-laws have a similar setup. Nowhere near as robust! It was never going to fall over. The inner steel would have to be able completely twist inside the other tube for that to happen, even less chance with the double pronged setup you have. It has more chance of tipping over and those cross braces won’t stop that!

Great segment ! Also the canopy can not fall over unless your welding is non-existent! Your channel has good info keep it up!

Sam, someone else asked you where you purchased the Trojan drop-down adjustable legs and I can’t see where you answered. I can only find electric ones online. Cheers.

I reckon you should weld a chain link on the forward and rear faces so you can put a ratchet strap across the front and rear stopping the arms coming out of the sleaves for extended periods of the canopy being off the truck. A 15min job that could save you so much time and money should the "impossible" becoming a cluster fuck. Also that would make it good to set up camp and leave it set up while you go off and hit the tracks during the day

Oil also stops your weld penetrating. Think about it, it stops the splatter sticking, it will stop your weld sticking.
