Great walk through, for beginners there 🙂One thing I'd always suggest, irrespective of shooting on a mobile phone or arri alexa, is to record audio seperately. A cheap zoom or tascam recorder and a half decent shotgun mic will be a massive boost to how the audio sounds (if it has xlr input even better). People will sit through terrible image quality but poor audio will have them leaving a screening or turning off I'd generally steer clear of wireless mics if you can due to the chance of interference or even the sound of clothes etc catching against the mic. It's an extra expense I know, plus an extra faff during the shoot and in the edit suite later but worth it in the long run. Plus you get the reassurance that the audio is recorded twice as a redundant back up on the phone and the clean audio recorded externally.

Thanks! Great tip. Yes when I was D.O.P on a short film recently they had someone recording external sound and it was such a relief to just focus on the shots. As you mentioned budget definitely comes into play but external sound is an ideal situation.

Thanks so much…. While my degree from 1988 is in ‘Broadcast & Film” from Boston University, my life has been 4 years in film [Toxic Avenger 2-4] and the rest in Mac consulting. Sweetie & I have shoot 160 beer vlogs…. They are fun. But no scripted projects. But we dream of doing something someday. Your video was a great inspiration.
