Good to know about USGA sand and VERY helpful to understand the differences between the grass growth on this side of the Atlantic when compared to the USA.

I think it might be worth mentioning that that statement only pertains to particular areas of the USA. It’s not like grass grows the same everywhere in the USA. We’ve got everything from rainforests to deserts here….

Just a wee tip.. Your sense of `level` can be exploited as follows... Shuffle backwards across the suspected area. Your Achilles tendon will respond at the edge of the dip. Drop some sand to mark the place and keep on shufflin` along.

@Premier_lawns_official

I have covered that a lot on this channel, I came up with a way to make a rubber version for very little. Great if it's your lawn and you aren't topdressing that often, once or twice a year. If you are a pro or using it a lot, a metal one is the way to go as it will last a lot longer kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6W8hoCNgN6cbKs

Good work, I’d only use sand to level small lumps and bumps, if the dips are an inch plus deep then I would only use a 10mm screeded top soil. Sand is great, but it holds no nutritional value. Great job though, love the drag mat.

I had to replace a 4 inch pipe going through one corner of the lawn. I filled it in and seeded it but it has settled down a 3-4 inches. Grass growth is good. Do I put sand on that or layer on topsoil every so often so not to smother the lawn. Is it too late to do that now or does it need growth so the grass is growing through the sand or topsoil which ever you recommend.

Really helpful video. My lawn has become very uneven over the years, if you can’t get hold of the sand what would be the next best thing to use for trying to level the lawn.
@Premier_lawns_official
@Premier_lawns_official 4 жыл бұрын
David best to use screened topsoil. (Little and often is best) My lawn is build out of 70/30 (70 soil/ 30 sand) Sand is inert and doesn't hold nutrients. If you are top dressing you want to try and match what you are applying and try and keep it similar Constantly adding sand to a clay lawn will work against you. If you do it regularly it can create a barrier layer in the soil. I use the sand as it's already in the root zone...

Hey, Great job!! someone asked what kind of rake he was using, in the States we call that a lawn rake. Just one question, in the States, coming out of spring going into summer, we experience rain and humidity that often leads to fungus development in the lawn. Diseases such as brown patch, dollar spot, pythium blight, rust and others can really destroy your lawn. Do you guys have to fight these diseases. If so I would like to know how you identify and treat these funguses as my battle with them will soon start. You guys stay safe, and I'll be watching.

We don't get those diseases here that often. The diseases that lawns get in the uk and Ireland is red thread and Fusarium. Lots of rules and regulations here for the chemicals to treat. Though shouldn't be an issue for this lawn. All the best and thanks for stopping by 😁

Hi mate love the vid 👍🏻 just wondering where I could get usga sand from going to do the same thing as you in this vid. I top dressed my lawn with supposedly high quality screened soil from a certain boy in dungannon and ended up with a lawn full of daisys and what looks like creeping parsley so iv killed it all off with ronsate 360 Tf and I plan to over seed and dress again but I’m afraid to use a soil mix because the same will happen again.

Hello Robbie, I watched one of your video's where you used Elliotts Lawn Sand. I really want to give that a go but I can't find the video again on how to use it. Could you give me the link if you know it please. Cheers for your help and keep up the great video's.

Cracking content Robbie, I’m in a new build in the UK and the turf is so so. Had a couple of years of neglect and is patchy. I need to level in places but also need to overseed also. What is the best way to do this? Got the sand would doing a blend of sand/topsoil work?I have just aerated and scarified the lawn. Appreciate some guidance.

Once you've levelled with sand. Do you then re-seed? I re-turfed my lawn last summer during lockdown. This year it looks a bit worse for wear though. Thin in areas, bumpy and not as level as it was. Lawn care is more difficult then you think. So any pointers to get it looking thick, healthy and level again. Would be greatly appreciated. We have a fairly long lawn. So its harder to maintain then your "normal" sized back garden.

Here, all over east Meath we’ve got very heavy, compacted soil which holds a lot of water, in it and on top of it and it takes ages to dry off after a heavy rainfall. Would mixing sand in, raking it well in, as well as forking the whole lawn, give it a chance to let water drain off quicker?

Dave think of the one third rule as something to do over the long term. Say you go away on holidays and come back and it's like a hay field and needs cut. It's ok that one time to cut it down below the one third. Just don't make a habit of it 👍

What would you do for where there could be 4 or 5 inch differences? I don't mind so much about actually levelling all in one go more just for smoothing off the ridges instead of having drops from one level to the next.

Adam Smith .... Not really a good tip as Play Pit Sand is typically fine/very fine particle size which isn’t ideal.. USGA Sand is predominately Medium /Coarse.. UK Sand is predominately Medium/Fine..
