I grew up pressing flowers - in telephone books, as I remember, but often I will open up a big heavy book and find a long-ago present , long-ago forgotten. Xx

What a beautiful press! Lucky find! I made a press out of long threaded bolts plywood and wing nuts. Used newspaper from end rolls (no ink). Pressed native plants for the display at the Lewis and Clark travel event. Our country had historical events that followed their travel and ended at the West Coast on Columbia River. It as fun. We also used live native plants to build an in door forest with pond and cattails. No frogs darn! Watching your flowers pressing was fun.

I’ve recently watched a video where the artist pressed a variety of flowers, onto fabric, to create delicate floral designs-that they were going to use in a dress. Lovely creative and fun to experiment with! Thank you for sharing your curiosity and process.

What fun! My granddaughter and I did some flower pressing this summer. In North America, paper crafters and quilters(especially those who do English Paper Piecing) often use a craft glue that comes in a bottle with a needle tip that can place a tiny drop of glue. That might work. Have fun!!!

I feel like Arne was more "in charge" in this episode. Love the way he built up the rose--that is amazing! I can't wait to see the finished product at some point. You do a great job of reusing or upcycling those old patterns. Maybe spray the paper with the spray glue, then stick on your flowers? Thank you for sharing this!

Apparently you can use Elmers glue or mod-podge glue; these dry clear. Also be careful to not use too much. Perhaps a small paint brush to control amount. There are videos on this online. I love how Arne arranged the rose. I’ve only pressed flowers a few times. I do love the ability to save to colors of spring and summer blooms. Last summer I did botanical printing on fabric. Alum has to be apprised to paper or fabric. It is also a layering process, but the results are beautiful! Sometimes I was surprised by the colors I got once removed from the heated press.

Your press is amazing! I have a small 5" x5" press Thai is two pieces of wood with long screws in the corners that have wingnuts to tighten for pressure. The layers of flowers and paper are separated by cardstock. That does well with small flowers. The big book is my go to for large blooms.

I love to learn more crafts from Arne + Carlos! Your flowers are really beautiful, and that poppy!?! 🥰 I hope one of your phones offers translate via the camera app. I found this most helpful. In adding the flowers, the glue might make it more difficult to control both the glue on the flowers and where the glue ends up. I think the flowers stayed in place by the pressing itself into the paper. Hope the company has a Contact listed and you can ask them questions via email. Can't wait to see more from this craft!

Hey guys! Looking forward to watching this video. Think you may be interested in this project we made years ago -- a pressed flower side table: purchased 4 precut round wood pieces about 2 ft wide and 3 wooden legs from home improvement store, cut out pages from a garden magazine and decoupaged the tops and sides of 2 of them (1 for the base, 1 for the top), attached the base to the legs, set some white butcher paper on top of the base for flowers to lie on, covered with another piece of butcher paper, set the first plain round wood piece on top of that, then repeat w/ as many round pieces you want, and place the 2nd (and final) round decoupaged wood piece on top. I should have thought to use white/cream cotton fabric instead of paper to get a nature print on the fabric to use in a project. Blessings!

I have used white glue (Elmers in the US) just a dot, applied with a toothpick is all you need. And when drying, it's removing moisture rather than air. Any moisture will result in moldy flowers.

Loved the caution: “Don’t do this at home!” I hope you have resolved the oven question by now; is this why you have to remodel your kitchen? NOT meant to go in the oven? Do let us know! I was given a kit rather like yours and I put some flowers in it, but, here’s my inner Arne coming out, I can’t seem to locate it…..

Oh, dear, fellas!!😮 I believe those air-tight plastic bags are to be used for storing your dried flowers, NOT for the drying process itself! Moisture from the plant materials MUST be allowed to escape, so unless those bags are made from some kind of totally breatheable, new-fangled plastic, take your flowers out of the bags right away! Why? 1) Pressure via your book press, a pile of books or bricks, or a heavy cast iron skillet flattens the plant matter, which releases moisture; 2) Moisture from that plant matter is gradually absorbed by the paper products; 3) The moisture moves to the edges of the paper where it evaporates. Think of how fire wood must be properly stacked in order to dry - and remain so: Gaps are left between logs and between rows of stacked wood to permit air flow, and moisture thus evaporates. REMOVE the pressed flowers from their sealed bags or you will have a mess of stinky, gooey, anaerobic slime instead of pretty flowers.🤢🤮 This advice is being sent with much love from a plant-pressing, devoted fan of yours.😇🤓
