How to Make Your Own Sage Bundle Sticks!

Today we are making (inexpensive) sage bundle sticks! You can use your sage from your garden and whatever herbs you have as well! With that and some thin cotton string and scissors, you have all the tools to create your own cleansing tool!
To dry, put your sage stick in a dry and sunny location (or even the laundry room) to help it dry out quicker.
Everyone has their own way of doing this, this is just my own personal way. I am not an expert, I just like sharing.

I use Garden Sage in this video. White Sage is over harvested and is used in closed practices. Smudging is a closed practice, however, smoke cleansing is not. When I filmed this, I didn't do enough research about all of this and I sincerely apologize. These bundles/sticks I have made in this video are all herbs from my personal garden and are what I use to smoke cleanse.

Something I learned about tying my sticks is to use a wet paper towel, the make a size is perfect. Just wet it and roll up your herbs tightly as if you're rolling a doobie. Let it sit over night to dry and when you come back, the roll will be perfect and all you have to do is tie it up. I use a lot of different things in my smudge sticks. Fig bark is great and so are the leaves. Mexican sycamore has a wonderful smell from the leaves. When it is this time of year they are really nice and flexible so don't dry them first. They make a perfect way to roll up your herbs. Sage, thyme, basil are all good but check with other fragrances in the wild and test them first before burning. Some people say that mint burns with a bad smell I don't know that for sure but I'm testing.

Thank you so much, this is so helpful! I started growing several herbs in my garden recently, including sage for this exact purpose :) I also have some rosemary, that seems like I would make a heavenly smell! Also, I appreciate you mentioning in the comments the issues about using white sage. I know not everyone is responding well to it, but I think it’s worth knowing. One of my good friends is fully Native American and there’s such a collective wound for her people that for decades, they were persecuted for burning sage and other beliefs and traditions of her people’s, but now that it’s trendy, it’s getting dangerously close to extinction from over-harvesting. I didn’t know about it until recently too, but that’s part of what inspired me to plant sage of my own! It’s just culinary sage, but I still feel better about using stuff that I’ve grown. You can just saturate it in intention from the moment you get it! :)

I was lucky to find a small planter of white sage in the herb section in the grocery store of all places. Planned it in my garden in the spring and it grew like crazy and spread everywhere. Also with my mint which are all perennial and a huge section of just lavender. I did my first bundle yesterday the first one I was fumbling with the string but after that it was a breeze I made four beautiful bundles with lavender and the white sage. The only twine I could find with very thin burlap twine I'm wondering how that's going to turn out burning it. I have it hanging up to dry I'm wondering how long it takes to completely dry out and will the bundles become smaller after dried. I had such a good time doing it, they were made with love. 🌱♥️💚
