How to make your own slide hammer

It seemed grossly overpriced when I looked at the options that were available on the market. It's such a simple thing! So I spent $20 on materials and made my own, and it was definitely worth it.

I built one yesterday when removing the wheel bearing, just buy a right size thread rod, using nut and large washer as end stopper. dumbbell plate can be used as the mass, so I can easily get 5~10kg hammer...

You know what would make the perfect slide for heavy duty applications? One of those small dumbbell weights 8-10 pounds would probably rip any hub out of any steering knuckle/inner race

Lol thats funny i just had to make my own yesterday to pull a axle out of toyota sienna, was just curious ilhow other people made slide hammers. Looks like you are doing same axle job on same car haha

Yeah that passenger axle with the carrier brace is super hard to get out. What a day that was. The first time I did that job even a rented slide hammer wouldn't do the job.

Very nice and practical build. I am at a point of needing to make my own as well, so thank you for sharing your tips. BTW: I have always heard that all of the cool guys are named “Eddy”!

I get it for sure the welding setup is expensive but once I got mine it saved me so much time and energy as well as money fixing my equipment and making custom creations.
