In this video I show you how I make my handmade stones to paint on. If you have any questions feel free to ask!
The company I buy my molds from is Happy Dotting Company Mold. Use the code DelicateDots for a discount. etsy.me/2gRjh8X
Happy Dotting Company’s (HDC) recommended measurements for Ultracal and then what I use.
Also important to note that HDC’s recommendation is also based on what Ultracal recommends.
Mold 1 tall round mold.
8.3oz Ultracal 3.2 water (HDC)
9 oz Ultracal 3 oz water (what I use)
Mold 2 Large Flat (now the medium flat)
8.8 oz Ultracal 3.35 water (HDC)
9 oz Ultracal 3 oz water (what I use)
Mold 3 small flat
4.4 oz Ultracal 1.65 water (HDC)
5 oz Ultracal 1.5 water (what I use)
Heart mold
8 oz Ultracal. 3 water (I use the same, but I always make my hearts with other stones)
Small and large oval
9.7 powder 3.66 water (HDC)
10 powder 3 water (I use)
I also adjust the mixture on occasion at the end. If it looks way too thin I will add some more Ultracal. If it is too thick I will add just a touch of water. If you are not having any issues with your stones where you live I would recommend leaving it alone. I really think humidity plays a roll in why I needed to increase the Ultracal and decrease the water. Before I adjusted the amounts and I was using the recommended amounts, I found the bottom of my stones to be weak. They could be easily scratched and gouged with my finger nail. During drop test they chipped really bad and the bottoms could even shatter off. After adjusting the mixture I no longer had either of these issues. If you are experiencing similar issues then I would definitely try increasing the powder and decreasing the water. I have not heard of a lot of people having the issues I was having with the recommend amounts, so I have come to the conclusion that my climate was playing a role in my results. So don’t be afraid to adjust it a little if needed. It worked for me.

Hi, I can’t get the Ultracal 30 here in BC so I use Cement-All which is stronger. No worries about breaking or outdoor environment. Super smooth shiny result too. You should give it a try. Save $$.

I wonder if the vibrations from an old electric toothbrush would be good for releasing bubbles? Then again maybe a personal massager would be a good alternative. Norm Retired Engineer

Your music is interfering with my ability to hear what you are saying. I had to stop listening. Could you lower the volume or maybe delete the music? Thank you, Lanie
