I do use the vallejo stuff and like you say, it ain't cheap so I will definitely give this a go, great tip. You've also given me an idea for what to add in for texture - I bought myself a mini table saw from eBay the other day (absolutely fantastic little tool, probably very scary!!) and it came with a pretty chunky saw blade which produced a lot of chunky chips when I ran some plasticard sheet through it, however, I reckon feeding all my spare sprue through the saw I'd be able to add those plastic chips to a texture mix like this.

Sounds like a good idea! You can even grind up bits in an electric blender and add them to the mix 👍

Nice job! I always love to see these kinds of vids, more videos with more sciency trials and results for various ratios/materials etc would be cool too!

I dry and save coffee grounds for making textured bases. I had just been mixing PVA glue with the grounds and then painting them after they dry.

I used tile grout instead of wall filler, and also tried with plaster of Paris, the results are more or less the same, but the tile grout gives an almost ultra mate finish.

Will give these a try. Have you tried Midwinter Minis coffeehammer recipe? Used that for a previous project and worked well.

I haven’t, but I have seen his video! I should give it a try 😊

Great vid. Love do it yourself stuff vids. Have noticed that wall filler doesn't stick as well. Maybe add PVA if that is de case?
@MTGBella2 жыл бұрын
The wall filler doesn’t stick to the plastic at all, but if you scraped it onto a primed base, it shouldn’t come off 🙂

Ooh that first texture in particular I'd great. What sand from B&Q is it?

Your mix looks better than the vallajo.does this keep in a jar or do you mix it as needed
@MTGBella Жыл бұрын
If you store in an air tight container, it will last a few weeks, for sure. Maybe longer, but it might dry up a little 🙂

Thanks so much for this! Will it stick on ok if I'm applying it directly to bases?
@MTGBella2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I’ve not had trouble with pasting it onto unprimed bases 🙂

Can this work to make lava bases?
@MTGBella Жыл бұрын
You could probably mix some onto a plastic lid, let it dry and then crumble it up to stick onto the bases. And then maybe fill in the gaps with tinted clear water or resin to look like lava :)

I think it was this one. They sell it at Homebase as well: www.diy.com/departments/tarmac-sharp-sand-large-bag/5030349012445_BQ.prd
