I can’t believe you just put a whole behavioural therapy degree in a 42 minute video
@anjaeichen25333 ай бұрын
One could argue it was a two-step process. Step 1: Prof Steve Peters put the "behavioural therapy degree" into a book. (Several, actually. 'A Path through the Jungle' might be even better than the Chimp Paradox.) Step 2: Lewis brought the "behavioural therapy degree" to you in 42 minutes. Each have their own touch of genius. I just hope that viewers won't be satisfied with having heard ABOUT these genius concepts but grab a copy of 'A Path through the Jungle' and check it out, to learn how to apply some of the concepts. It's really quite hard work, but also rather awesome. (Sorry if you got two replies from me. I don't quite understand what happened to the first one.)

Perhaps you might fancy grabbing a copy of 'A Path through the Jungle' by the creator of the "inner chimp" concept, Prof Steve Peters. It's like a eight-step programme to come to grips with the inner chimp. The book contains a mix of explanations (all the concepts covered here, as far as I recall, and more), stories, examples and techniques for wrestling with, negotiating with, being caught out by, appeasing, etc the inner chimp. It can be mind-numbingly frustrating to grapple with the inner chimp, as I'm sure most people know. Feels nice to be able to show the inner chimp who's boss every now and then. (Sorry if you got two replies from me. I don't quite understand what happened to the first one.)

Having the “gremlins” separate from the chimp is something I had not thought of but it makes sense. Gremlins (negative thought patterns) can be dealt with - but you have to learn to live with the chimp (instinct and emotions).
@anjaeichen25333 ай бұрын
It’s so helpful that he also reminded us of Goblins, those deeply-rooted, tough-to-shift beliefs. Human, Chimp, Computer, Gremlins, Goblins, Autopilots, Bananas, the Troop - these are such creative metaphors to give us a picture of how our minds work. I totally agree with Lewis on using a notebook to replace Gremlins with Autopilots, and to pick it up again and again. He started in summer 2022 and kept at it since - did I hear that right? The Chimp model isn't for everyone, but for those who connect with it, Prof Peters' 'A Path Through the Jungle' offers tons of tips for managing the mind. This video is a great introduction 👍

I can’t believe we’re about the same age! Your wisdom and charisma makes you seem so much older. Thank you for making these videos. You’re changing lives ❤
@anjaeichen25333 ай бұрын
Wisdom and charisma are great things to have. There is a lot of wisdom in sharing the wisdom of others. Especially of those older, extremely experienced experts. Like Prof Steve Peters, the author of the Chimp Paradox. He has achieved quite incredible things in his studies and career, and has worked many years with people in high pressure/high performance environments. I believe when he created the "inner chimp" and all those related concepts, he distilled his own learnings into concepts that we can all connect with. So cool. Many viewers might have never come across his work if it was not for this video. That's how sharing the wisdom of others can be valuable to viewers. I hope people will also check out the experts' works directly. Inspired by the new perspective, on their path to actual change. The latest inner chimp" book - 'A Path through the Jungle' by Prof Peters - could be right at the top of the list, perhaps. It has lots of exercises and many many insights. Charisma truly shines when it’s rooted in truth and authenticity.

I’m 22 now and Ive watched a few of your videos the last couple weeks, the way this all clicks and makes so much sense as if the answer has been staring you in the face the whole time is fantastic . It is similar to getting a video of a future self who has already gone through the gruelling times you are dealing with and guiding you through it. Not a single other self-help guru, religion, ideology or book has been 10% as useful as these videos. You don’t pretend to be perfect and I think this is what makes it so great because humans are flawed and you cannot learn from someone presenting themselves as if they are not.

What an amazing video! Thank you so much for going to the effort to compress so much useful information into one lesson. Outstanding work. Also the opening line in the video where you apologized that no one ever taught us this stuff as children, got me in the feels. Great work 👍🏻

This subject is so useful, and I’ve been looking for it for a long time. Thank you for your careful teaching. I can now organize my thoughts logically and find purpose quickly. Anyway, your drawing is so funny, and I watched until the end.

I was tempted to watch videos like these for a while but i havent ever had the courage to. Seeing them though made me a lot happier I was scared i was doing everything wrong, i was scared to confront myself, but when i did i realize i was stronger than what i thought, and that it was ok to keep self improving I have a lot of "goblins" in myself. A mother that has infinite expectations, that never praised me for anything while criticizing me as much as possible An abusive ex partner and toxic friend group that acted emotionally superior while being awful and abusive in every way imaginable, making me think that i was stupid for having a chimp, with the reality being that they were just really immature people only listening to their chimp and listening to one abusive person who pretended to not have flaws or mistakes Lots and lots of trauma i'm still fighting today. I've always been a person that wanted to self improve, but at the same time i was scared to maybe find out those abusers that hurt me and gaslit me were actually strong, and that i was pathetic and weak But now i know better how to handle things, i'm reassured, and hopefully once i get meds i can do this more easily as well

As soon as I heard chimp I thought of that book haha. I bought it the same day I heard Steven Peters on diary of a ceo. Great video man, 40 mins for 400 pages and you taught it very effectively. I definitely needed the reminder to keep my chimp in check.

05:45 “whenever we receive an input from the external environment it always goes to the chimp first”😅 that killed me 😂
