This is a good intro but careful answering a question with another question, some people find it uncomfortable, because you are twisting the roles you already accept by entering in that conversation

Hi, thank you for making this video :) I wonder if this exact way to interact with people is the same when it comes to texting and online communications? Most of my interactions are with online friends, and Im not very good with socializing and struggle with texting. It feels like it is more difficult to communicate just over text, it is harder to express feelings since you dont see each others face. Would be lovely if you liked to bring up the topic of communication online / texting, and creating close intimate connections online. ^^ Thank you again for sharing your knowledge! ❤

I'm not an expert. This seems like the kind of thing that would probably work a decent enough amount of the time for hard-working neurotypical people with no other significant problems. Roll the dice for everybody else. Not to say that it's not useful advice, just that this is far from a catchall in just about every dimension.

These sorts of things are quite difficult for me, because a majority of my relationships are online and since I've been using tech since I was very young, I am most "at home" with my online friends. Many people disparage such relationships as non-genuine, but I try to foster real relationships as best as possible. We share hobbies, interests, and philosophies. In addition to my online relationships, my biggest hobby is digital art. I see this as a good thing, but this means that I will have to modify what it means to "unplug." For me, it will have to be avoiding internet sites like KZbin or Reddit, and instead only spending my time in productive apps and talking with my per-established list of friends. Just my thoughts, for anyone who has a similar situation to me!

Risk-seeking and impulsive people need to temper their excitement with calmness. But there also exist risk-averse, overly cautious people. For _these_ people, excitement may be a rare impulse to take action; but even then they might slip back into overthinking, over-analyzing, paralysis...

Very thankful for the simple, gentle, fluid structure of this video. Recently I particularly feel uncomfortable with the dopamine inducing edits that try to take my senses hostage and make me so utterly tired and unable to relax despite how it’s my allotted leisure time.

based off what i know, in not a scientist just a college kid learning about the brain, human emotions are processed in our bodies: emotion = arousal + emotional thought. So, let’s say you’re listening to a song you’re familiar with. You know you love the song because your body responds to it (maybe by making you tear up or, if it’s a freaky song, making you feel freakayyyy). But it’s up to your brain and prefrontal cortex to label that arousal and attribute an emotion to it. It’s really fascinating because we can even attribute the wrong emotions to our body’s physical responses.

I disagree because I can learn some stuff going online and get information that I'm interested in while just merely disconnecting me from social media is exactly what I would do. I would just be cut off from information in general that I'm even paying for monthly. What am I gaining by doing that? He forgot to mention one simple thing in this video: Why do I want to disconnect from social media? To regain something he claims I'm missing... Sounds more like spiritual nonsense than actual science. He didn't show any statistics why it would be beneficial... Back then people watched TV. Otherwise his only suggestion was to go climb a tree or touch grass. I rather just keep scrolling.

I have done a couple of things to change my habits: - installed an app called ScreenZen where it restricts you to a set number of app opens per day, for a set time, and you need to wait a set amount of time before you can open it. - I have replaced watching unbeneficial YT videos with beneficial ones such as long-form "lectures" in topics I am interested in, e.g. health. When I do watch more mindless content, I watch it in Spanish. As a result, I have learnt a tremendous amount of the language. There, I have managed to transform ~80% of my screen time with beneficial content!

Generally, I feel ok. I’m pretty good at keeping myself when I’m out. I don’t look at my phone much. Especially if I’m out for food and drink. But when I’m at home alone procrastinating, I can scroll and repeatedly reopen apps for hours, and I ****ing hate that. It’s just the ultimate boredom distraction. It’s replaced TV I guess, but it seems insidious.

The secret is to stop using social media when you're bored. Use social media with an active goal to learn or internalize something. My girlfriend gets annoyed when I'm "scrolling" because I end up watching the video over and over again, trying to find new details each time, formulate an opinion, read comments, argue with people in the comments, etc. Sometimes I head to the creator's main channel. Sometimes I open up a google search window and continue researching. Basically, actually engage with the content.

These sound like a lot of questions chat gpt would come up with if you asked it what questions to ask people. I think the key is being slightly vulnerable by sharing something about yourself that makes you feel some type of way then see if they feel like joining in. Where is your favorite place to travel or where did you go to School then following up with what they liked about it is still going to lead to a boring conversation.
