Our HL-L2390DW printer didn't recognize the toner even with the restart. So we removed the chip, slid the old chip into the new slot, and reset. That did the trick! Thanks for showing how to reset.

Thank you so much for this! I tried the steps in the video but it didn't work. I read through a bunch of replies and still didn't get it. I then decided to just close the front and pressed menu and a some other random buttons and it cleared and started working. you good sir are a gentleman and a scholar! I had the EXACT same problem. I did what you said. First I closed the tray and then I was able to play with the Menu, Clear, and Stop buttons over and over randomly until I was given access to the original start up menu. I then went into 1. General Setup and then 4. Replace Toner then you hit OK button when the word Stop appears. After all of those shenanigans. I opened up the tray table and followed the instructions in the video which FINALLY worked out. Again, you single handedly saved my sanity! Thanks!

@@shess1640 I took my printer in the store where i paid for my toner and he said bottom of the toner is a metal chip did not recognize the printer, so he changed the tonner now my printer start working . I don't want to buy the toner on line, its better go in store and buy it they will help you.

@@nawan2348 I rewatch the video several times and kept trying it on my printer and I got it to work. Maybe I just wasn't holding down both buttons at exactly the same time. Seemed like I was but after doing it and number of times it did work finally. I'm glad your situation is resolved as well

Are you using the Brothers OEM toner cartridges? This happens when using non-OEM toner cartridges, at least for me.

On a HL-L2390DW, I had to take out the toner for the code in this video to work. After all was done, I replaced the toner and received a "no toner" message on the printer. I reopened the toner door, took the toner out and put it back in once again, then it was fine. Note that this was with the starter toner cartridge.

Worked perfectly on Model HL-L2390DW Brother has a software counter that is not calibrated to actual toner level so they can sell more toner prematurely. My printer continues to print normally after reset.🤣🤣🤣

TC 1 second ago These steps didn't work for me, but I did figure the how to do it another way. Press "Menu", select "General Setup" , go down and select "Replace toner", then go down and select "continue" - you should be able to print more now.

For the HL-L2390DW the stop+clear didn't work instead I had to click on the menu button instead, and press 1 for general setup, and go to #4 for switch toner and select yes or accept new toner and everything worked after.

edit: 3/26/2020 -- so i figured it out. You need to to set gear for this to work. Do not fear the firmware update. Year 2020 update. If you will update the firmware, this reset does not work. It's a trap by brother so that you will be forced to buy genuine toner. Good luck

Hi John, you might not have properly assembled the gear inside the cartridge after refilling with toner powder, which is why you would still get the "replace toner" error message. To prevent this, I would strongly recommend getting a replacement toner cartridge if you prefer a more cost-saving option. I just figured it out!!!! LINKYO Corp does a very poor job in this video explaining it...however if you press the clear and stop keys and you find nothing happens that is because nothing is supposed to happen right away....try this.....press the clear and stop at the same time, then "immediately" press the clear key right after and it will get you into the settings the show in this video.

Hi John, here's the instruction on how to reset the DR730 drum unit in DCP-L2550DW: 1) Close the front cover 2) Press "OK" and the "↑ Up arrow key" at the same time 3) Press "OK" to select the "Drum" 4) Press the "↑ Up arrow key" one more time to reset the drum counter. Hope this helps!

For DCP2550DW this did not work......instead, leave the door shut with the new cartridge in place. Press "Menu", then select "1. General Setup" with the "OK" button.....scroll with arrows and make logical choices accepting the toner replaced prompts. Good luck.
