I just had an epiphany! This is why I always need a punchier lip or blush color to look normal and non washed out. I’m pale olive with varying shades of dark brown hair (depending on my mood) But I’m naturally more high contrast. 🤯 And I also like putting on my blouse before doing my makeup, because I always end up looking better in the end. Now I know it’s because I am actually matching the contrast or lack of contrast with what I’m wearing without realizing that’s what I’m doing-I just didn’t know the reason why it works for me! I learn so much from your videos!!!

Could you do a video showing an example of lighter contrast makeup? I feel like a lot of makeup content online is geared more towards higher contrast (probably because like you said, it shows up well on camera). But as a low contrast person that doesn’t work for me. I find it hard to judge how much is too much and how little is too little…

🤯 Mind. Blown. I FINALLY understand why my look feels off without a bolder lip. It clicked when you started asking "where are my eyebrows?" My hair, eye color, brows, and even lashes are higher contrast against my pale skin. My lips are the one exception. So it looks like my lips are missing unless I dial up the contrast to match my other features!
@anadanayaАй бұрын
Hi Kackie, I used to be a high contrast person (dark hair and light skin) my eyes are golden brown, so brown eyeliner and a red lip was all I needed. Now that I aged and let my hair white, I became a low contrast person (only my brows and lashes are dark now). All this to say that your video helped me in this change and in the ways I will approach makeup. Thank you

@yensid4294Ай бұрын
Contrast is often overlooked in favor of labeling colors warm or cool in the Beauty Sphere (That's problematic in & of itself since the concept of visual temp is over simplified & many fair people think they have a cool undertone when they don't. And foundations often pull far too yellow or pink) The idea of soft, or low/medium contrast doesn't seem to exist when discussing skintones & overall coloring. If you have a lot of yellow or red in your hair but visible pink in your skin, it can be very confusing. Doubly so for people with hazel-ish eyes that may contain both warm & cool colors. Soooo, people who would be "neutral" skintones are probably blended (warm & cool) or soft/muted. Change your haircolor drastically, & your contrast level changes too. Regarding black: I still wear black but when I do, I leave a lot of skin showing around my face (lower neckline) & bump up my makeup a little. A brighter lip, a smokier eye. Oddly, white looks worse on me than black because I need some contrast. If a color is too close to my skintone or too soft (grey) it washes me out much more than black or any deeper color. I never thought of myself as high contrast, but in a B&W photo, my skin looks very bright & my hair reads dark. Kinda wild.
@TurtleJuliaАй бұрын
Yes! A lot of pale foundations lean pink, less so now than ten or twenty years ago when there were like 3 super pale foundations to be found, because people thought that seeing redness meant a pink undertone. My neck is actually a super pale olive, and like you said, my eyes are hazel, so I don't wear super "cool" colors on my lids because it looks weird, even though I can only wear "cool" lip colors or clothes.
@beatdizzyАй бұрын
OMG I just realized I have warmish hazel eyes and coolish blueish lips 👄

Ye that’s me yellow tone in hair pinkish skin and grey green blue central hetrochromia eyes that change in light. It’s taken me months to figure out I could be a fair olive undertone but mainstream make up I end up not bothering with as it’s just not suiting me most of the time. Now I get it i have an unusual contrast level.

i've heard u talk about contrast a lot b4 but i nvr quite got why i as someone that has quite light skin & not very dark brown hair & brown eyes, and altogether could be described (coloration wise) very similarly to you felt like i was much more high contrast, but once you started talking about black & eyes i realized my eyes basically come across as black a lot of the time n how big a role that plays. there's some more contrast between my lips n the skin around them too, and the density of my eyebrows certainly plays a part. based on titles n thumbnails i don't feel the need 2 click on these videos of yours because i simply don't have any of the issues they're meant to help with but i've long since realized there could always be something for me to learn :]

As always, I delight in you playing color scientist, and found this video interesting and helpful, with you talking about hue, depth and temperature all together. As someone who grew up high contrast, and has gotten gray, it explains why I’m often unhappy with what works for me makeup and clothing-wise in the past, because my gray strands soften my contrast significantly. So when I add a temporary fashion color to my hair, I get my contrast back in a way that serves me better than trying to replicate my original ashy dark brown. Anyway, thanks for articulating all this in one video, it really helped gel the concepts for me!

This is such a cool video. I’m super high contrast and wear lots of eye makeup and a big black wing like Nicolette on the daily. The issue I struggle with is that I don’t know how to “amp up my look” for fancy events - it tends to just look the same. How much further can I take it? Ya know? Kackie, or anyone else have advice for a fellow high contrast?
@ah57588Ай бұрын
Fellow high contrast person 👋. Maybe consider playing with texture and temperature? I find for formal events I always play with textures in clothing like sequence and glitter to give an extra oof, and thus on the eyes I love going for really bright silver glitter on the with a matte black smokey eye. I also find cause I'm so cool toned, oranges look crazy high voltage to the point of me needing a lip liner to help make the color a little more native to me. On the other hand a black lip is just native to my skin so it's not what I do when I want more oof. Warm tones just pop off my skin so I use it when I want a little something I really like actually taking a picture of myself and basically getting the hexadecimal codes of hair, eyes, face etc with a dropper tool to then use them in making some color palettes. It can be a really fun way to see how colors work on you without actually buying a bunch of makeup
