Wait, when he walked out 16' to the left...how do you know that line is parallel to the house? At :55 seconds you told him to go to the right up the hill just a little bit. Then, even when you did the 6 x 8 x 10 and it still forms a 90 degree angle, BUT the L shape could be rotated to the right if he went too far up hill to the right. Right?

Do you follow the slop of the ground or make it level ignoring the slop?
@lesliebrew4789
@lesliebrew4789 3 жыл бұрын
Always follow the slope of the ground. If you make it level, One end of the fence could be too high or the other end may be super low to the ground.

Nice Princess Bride reference there: "I've got a secret though....I'm not left handed." "My name is Inigo Mantoya, you killed my father...prepare to die." Good explanation of the 3/4/5 method, it works great for getting square corners.

What would happen if it was 9 1/2 ft in this yard? Is this only helpful for a 2 sided fence

The formula (which can easily be done on a calculator) is a^2 + b^2 = c^2. Works with any numbers.

is it square in relationship to the house or does that matter here ?.
@Bandito518
@Bandito518 4 жыл бұрын
Yes that would matter cause it might look crooked so to speak with relation to the house. The older gentleman in the video knows his stuff so I’m sure he took that into account he just probably forgot to mention it.

Do you have to measure 6 feet on the long run or can you measure it on the short run?
@lesliebrew4789
@lesliebrew4789 3 жыл бұрын
They had the triangle upside down. You would want to use the longer side of the formula on the longest run.

the way they make the square don't make sense....if any of the lines you are coming off of isn't straight to begin with then how can it even work out right ...you may have a comer but whois to say the fence will even be straight...any one of them could be crooked...you need to straight lines to work of off...and they don't show how they got that
@chrisyoshi7365

Yes this was exactly my thought when they made the 90 degree square, how do they make the first line straight?

The first line would be set to your property line. But in this case of the video you can have it wherever you want. This was just a section of fence for privacy in the middle of a yard. He just eyeballed it....

This is the part I am looking for. Asq x Bsq =Csq great. A can be any where to start but how to determine B so that C can be found? How is A and B kept straight?

The measurements would be better done in metric, so the I guess the Pythagorean square should be something like 30 cm x 40 cm x 50 cm. Those are small dimensions however so tricky to measure.
