Frank, I feel like you could be chasing your own tail by your standards of enlightenment, seeking a constant egoic desire of renewal. Maybe with practice, we can reach a perpetually augmented state of reality, but should there necessarily be a tipping point of flipping a switch? What if meditation isn't the goal, but just a mental apparatus for survival like how muscles are physically? I'm opposed to the idea of nothingness/void/everything because it just seems like a consolation prize for retreating from the true organic nature of reality, or even denying our own evolution and embedded biological drives and desires, which has always been to conquer and influence. If an objective reality is something that has been studied with depth and universally agreed upon, wouldn't we be deluding ourselves if that was something we denied? Or maybe we are headed towards a different direction such that we prize the individual and subjective experience because we are becoming self sustainable and self reliant in an isolated world.
@frankyang8 жыл бұрын
+kwwonn great comment. I think about this all the time, always debating whether to be a vagina (meditate and retreat/void) or a BBC (conquer and influence, lift and fuck). The thing about meditation is it's not really the goal to be nothingness. Even if you want to conquer, get in touch with your desire, etc, you can still be in the void. All you have to do is cover everything with acceptance and awareness, then there is nothing that's off limit. I do agree that meditation shouldn't be a goal. Enlightenment shouldn't be a goal. I'm just going to carry on with life the way it has always been while meditating twice a day and witness whatever change that occur moment by moment, day by day.
@evanmcdon4 жыл бұрын
great dialogue. I agree Frank, that meditation is totally compatible with progression and activity . I struggled with this seeming dichotomy for a long time until I realized that the egoic structure of things (hierarchy, desire, progress, etc) are all arising within consciousness so they are something to be embraced. the difference between vagina and BBC doesn't exist on the level of awareness. there is only witnessing. so what you choose to do in life is purely a dualistic, egoic, biological choice. conquering while being the void/noticing the conquering. it's a a paradox, a yin yang. they aren't mutually exclusive.

In my opinion enlightenment is a state of no desire or attachment to anything worldly , what I find contradictive is this state is similliar to depression.
@LeGaben8 жыл бұрын
+Sma Haggle Thats not true, one wouldn't experience sadness "depression" without attachment to themselves. They would be able separate from them emotions if they didn't have desires and attachment.
@CharismaStrategies8 жыл бұрын
+Sma Haggle True "enlightenment" (a word that I don't particularly like to use) is actually just growth in love. True spirituality is growing in love towards yourself and others and this is one thing that many forget. When you pass away one day, for the first time, you will be able to see that the universal construction is all built on love, and there are locations in the spirit world that can only be inhabited based on the amount of love you have within yourself. Your true soul condition. When New Age talk about "vibration", the actual correct term is love. The universe is split up into different interstellar boundaries, spheres, or dimensions, whichever term you prefer, and they are all separated by love. Love is the root of everything, it's just that most people do not understand this yet while still on this earth. Love is not this fake stance of "trying" to be good to others. Love is a matter of looking at one self and allowing ourselves to get rid of our emotional errors and emotional addictions that dwell in the soul. True enlightenment is not this state of being zenned out. True spiritual growth is being in a real state of love towards others and yourself without faking it.
@cooneykiid2k128 жыл бұрын
+Thierry St-Pierre-Langlois Hmm I see your point , It would be more attainable by using this definition "a European intellectual movement of the late 17th and 18th centuries emphasizing reason and individualism rather than tradition. It was heavily influenced by 17th-century philosophers such as Descartes, Locke, and Newton, and its prominent exponents include Kant, Goethe, Voltaire, Rousseau, and Adam Smith."
@ayy21938 жыл бұрын
I think that would be depersonalization, aka. "fake enlightenment". Enlightenment is supposedly enjoyable and connected, with clarity, where depersonalization is numb and solitary, with foggyness.
@LeGaben8 жыл бұрын
I see what you are saying and I mean sure there are many types of meditation and practices... Some people will refrain from all worldly pleasures and attempt to not feel anything. But what I am saying is that one should use meditation and reflection to try and get a rational point of view instead of being stuck an emotional whirlwind... because most of the time problems have causes that can be logically approached with a bit of rationalizing. Brilliant cut away at 25-46. That is the meditation technique. I wonder how many people will understand you Frank. You are in the zone as you speak. Some may call this channeling. The nano second is the portal. A still frame in the movie of life. I was a film editor for ABC TV. I spliced local film to syndicated overseas film (emulsion on the opposite side). The film fell apart at that splice and the National news came to a stop. The news reader had to add lib. No one ever blamed me. They may not have wanted to know. Now I view my life as a movie I can walk out on one frame at a time and splice in a new one. Do you still have time to read comments Frank>

22:54 I'm a bit sceptical of this.. what about psychological diseases? You can't just get out of those and change your set of mind in a glimpse (with 64 billion opportunities each day) because at some point in your life you already fucked up and your brain was wired in a weird way. I mean you can still observe the weird thoughts created by your fucked up brain but your consciousness will always be distorted/altered. Another analogy is that babies don't even have the capabilities of thinking like that.. of being mindful. Your consciousness is also influenced by your mind I'd say.
@evanmcdon4 жыл бұрын
your point about creating the universe by the act of observing resonated with me. this is represented at the quantum level with the way quantum particles don't 'choose' their position until observed!
@sumkin58 жыл бұрын
7:01 had immediately a picture of a bubble surrounding me which afterwards bursts cause this makes sense. Also was able to feel the thing by meditating that the boundaries or the distinction between you and the environment surrounding you cease with ongoing meditation. However it is quite hard. Probably that is why monks meditate for hours and practice it for years. Just realize that they nor only erase the distinction between themselves and their surroundings but they move further until they are "ONE" on the local level, then on the global level and probably on the universal level. A part of everything. Sounds cliche like, but it gives me a peace of mind to let if of my thoughts.

I just relized taht you can meditate wherever you are just focus on what you do in the moment and this is exactly like meditating and focusing on breath you can watch your thoughs and emotions that wants to pull you from the present moment. And btw after meditating for 2 weeks i just realized 2 days ago that I was just wondering with closed eyes for 30-40 minutes. And for begginers it can be very frustrating and please if you start with meditation start with paying attention to your breath and master it then you can go further. Like I couldnt even take a one concious breath without A 2 or 3 thoughts haha disrupting. Pay attention from the start to end of the breath cuz for me it was like that in the middle of the breath i was aware that Im breathing and then my mind started to wonder about something else cuz it has that confirmation in The middle that Im Aware: ) so focus from the start to end and you will see how Many thoughs you have and how much you are in your Head

First time I watched this (a month or two into meditation) I had no idea what the fuck you were talking about. Now that I've meditated every day for over a year straight I understand exactly where you're coming from. Mindfulness is the realization of the non dualistic world. The moment of pure non dualistic awareness is beyond explanation. Pure consciousness. Fuuuuarrrrrk, I've only gotten to that point while tripping hard af on psychedelics while meditating. Little bits and pieces sober minded but no able to sustain the awareness state.... yet. In time. Keep meditating friends😛

Frankly, Frank, I have to disagree with your opinion that one should not attempt to be good at meditation or give a quality to a certain state of mind attained during meditation. You go on to say that tm classes are valuable and should be expensive as the price itself will motivate people to do the practice daily. Why would discipline be important if the goal was not to be "good" or at least well practiced in meditation? Furthermore you say that meditation is pointless if it cannot be brought into post meditation "real life" if someone has crappy meditation they wont experience much benefits in "real life".

(sorry for the long comment) TLDR: enlightenment can't be achieved (also I know that my opinion is bs but maybe you'll find it interesting) What did Jesus or the Buddha mean when they said to become enlightened? -> They ‘were’ themselves enlightened according to legend but really what they mean was extreme acceptance and an understanding that it can never be reached until death. They knew that they couldn’t just tell people, wisdom cannot be taught, only knowledge can. Wisdom must be acquired through experience and through years. They knew that people would be attached and be driven to attain and filled with desire to reach the highest level. They couldn’t just say ‘there are no levels’. There are no answers. There are no questions. It just is. It just doesn’t matter. There’s nothing is achieve aside from what someone told you to achieve. Or what your evolutionary instincts tell you to achieve. They wanted people to go on the journey themselves to attain this state and they knew that if someone really went at it, went full force at it, they would eventually realize that it was just a game. That there were no levels or prize to achieve. They would become enlightened by realize that enlightenment cannot be achieved and that it doesn’t exist. Therefor making you enlightened.
