My spiritual teacher, and a very advanced one, explains that our "Soul," is our true, essential self, and in meditation the soul is the observer, and that the mind is the part of us that does all the talking in our heads! By observing, as you said, we can learn to differentiate between the two. The problem for most people is that they think they are that part of them that does all the talking in their heads! When someone becomes aware, and they learn how to separate the two, they will begin to experience, or they can begin to choose that part of them that is a spark of the eternal God. Who we really are is that observer. The thinking part of us operates in time and space, and our true selves, our soul, was, is, and always will be, and exists outside time and space!
@danalyze

Godskingdomwithin Then who is perceiving the soul?
@Godskingdomwithin
@Godskingdomwithin 9 жыл бұрын
The "soul," is perception. In this world, on this level of experience, each soul seems to be separate while in a human being, but on the highest level of consciousness in our true home, which most call God, all souls are one. In other words, the soul within us is divine. It never knows death, or birth. Through meditation we can awaken that part of us. If that is what we seek. There are other forms of meditation that help some people relax, or think more clearly. Higher meditation is for the purpose of reuniting with the source-God--which is within us all.

Your next level meditation absolutely began my journey of awareness and BOIN, I began transcendental meditation at 18. I’m 65. Your letting go simply made the difference, it’s so much more effective. I no longer “struggle” while meditating. I do your steps of focus on body and then push out into reality. You are reality. I find by doing that, I can more easily rest my thoughts. Get out of my skull. I now look fwd to meditating daily now.

Just like excercise, it can also make mental issues worse. Not saying I disagree with your actual point, but it is hardly that simple. Training your mind is helpful but it alone doesn't keep your mind in good health. Focusing on spirituality and deep meditation while covering up trauma can be like doing intense excercise while ignoring a broken bone. You are not helping it heal, you could make it worse.

Johanan Boynes Maybe thats just your ego clinging to the positive feelings and thoughts. Try not to control them, just watch and observe without judgement or thinking. Be the awareness where these positive thoughts/feelings arises (just as the negative thoughts/feelings). Accept what is, let go of resistance.
@reggaemow
@reggaemow 9 жыл бұрын
Johanan Boynes Well yeah, something like that.. resistance only build up to the sense of suffering. If you identify yourself with a thought or a feeling it becomes "you". So if you identify yourself with a negative thought and start to resist it, you will feel suffer. Observing and accepting what is, as it is, will free you from identification with that particular thought, sensation or feeling and you will stop resisting it and by that stop feeling suffer from it. And as you noticed it is easier and sure more joyful to identify with a positive thought or feeling, but still, its not the "true you". As in your case, you are identified with this positive sensation, just as you are when you're feeling sad. But this time its harder to detach yourself to be the observer of the feeling. Observe and accept whatever arises in your field of awareness, without judgement or resistance.
@reggaemow
@reggaemow 9 жыл бұрын
Johanan Boynes Yes, it is a lot of work. Its impossibly to try and understand this in a logical/intellectual/rational way, you have to experience it for yourself. I have probably done a few hundred hours of meditation just to get a slight sensation of what that experience could be, but its really worth it! Yeah, I can relate to what you are saying. Even if it somehow seems easier for me to become the observer when a negative thought, emotion or sensation occurs, and in time stop myself from identify with it or at least be conscious enough to recognise that this feeling or thought isn't the real "me", its still very hard for me to do that in a real ordinary-life-situation. And when a happy feeling arises I'm totally consumed by that thought or emotion, not even trying to become the observer (ofc sometimes I do try it too). At this point I'm fully identified, or my ego is, with the content that arises within my field of awareness. And I'm working towards an identification to the "real me".. whatever that might be.. and it can only be gained through experience.. a lot of work, yes, but worth it I think.

Leo, This video was very helpful. Since your video on How To Become Enlightened, I've been meditating for approximately 30 minutes upon waking every morning. I do use the alarm on my smart phone but keep it on airplane mode. I'm planning on a full Saturday where I can do the meditation marathon at some point. I find a lot of negative emotions come up more times than not. Then I get frustrated at that and round and round I go. I take my thoughts wayyy too seriously. Geez. The active detachment part you talk about helped me realize what is going on. To put a name to it. The emotions, the thoughts.....they're all just thoughts, content. It's like writing words on a dry erase board, erasing that and writing some more. The content changes but the board always stays the same. Awareness stays the same. Some content I get attached to and run away with and make up stories until I realize I lost my center. Then I come back. Sometimes I have an itch and think "oh that's just an itch" and it fades away. Other times my mind is like "that really itches, I must scratch!" Then I'm scratching my leg. It seems like schizophrenia what is going on in my mind! Something I am curious about is the people that talk about hearing a voice, the voice of God. I've never heard any such thing. Is there a voice of God? Voice of something greater than us that we can hear other than our thoughts or would it just be thoughts too? I'm not even talking about religion, though I've met Christians who claim Jesus speaks to them. I've also heard other spiritual types mention some voice speaking to them. All I hear are things like "How much time is left? My belly hurts. What did she mean by that? What will I make for breakfast? Man, I hate driving in morning rush hour"....and on and on and on.. If that's "God" talking to me, "he" must really be bored.

Hi Leo, Thank you for sharing with your inspiring videos. In the book The monk who sold Ferrari, he says "When the student is ready the teacher appears", that`s what I felt when I started watching your videos. Just wanted to tell you, try to meditate while swimming and during the sunset. It`s magical, I close my eyes while swimming in a frog style without too much effort, just relax and then I feel weightless and my mind is just in peace. I feel like a flying bird and when I open my eyes look at the red sunset I feel that I am a part of the universe. It`s incredible. Wish you a peace of mind and success in everything what you are doing. Cholpon

Leo, something that might come in handy for you: When you talk about day-dreaming, it's not really a pitfall. Buddhists say "sleep is unconscious meditation, meditation is conscious sleep". So, if you stay awake (=your consciousness stays lucid), or in other words aware of your thoughts, there's no problem, really. This is known as lucid dreaming meditation and it can be either dream induced (DILD) or wake induced (WILD). Another name for this kind of meditation is astral projection. In medicine there is a phenomenon called out of body experience, and you can probably see the connection now:)

good practical explanation and advice highlighting those traps, yes thought is just thought weather you think its good or bad, just keep the flow going when you attach to a thought you stop the flow and your breath also changes, when your mind wonders away with your thought you become accustomed to that pattern after awhile and you don't get frustrated with trying to stop it happening and by realizing and accepting that your able to keep the flow going instead of stop and go stop and go

Awesome stuff, Leo. This video helped me not really to meditate deeper but to meditate... I'd say correctly. Hear me out, guys. For months I've been meditating somewhere at stage 3, or trying to. I was feeling like not doing it correctly or being too slow, or if not, too restless to enjoy the process. Little did I know that some of the other "kinds" of meditation are actually other stages of it. Of course I couldn't focus my awareness on my body because I had no inkling of what awareness was. Now starting at level 1 - where I currently am, I mean, I've only been meditating daily for half a year - it's so much more enjoyable and natural. Now I can ACTUALLY lean into the "expectation-less" realm that everybody's talking about, that I didn't quite understand. And bit by bit, I'll move up and try more and more stage 2. AWESOME! You're boss, Leo. EDIT: If anyone reads twice on the phrase "only half a year", don't be shocked. Depending on whether you find the right approach to it, you would probably get good at meditation way sooner than me. However, remember what Leo also says: You need to do it daily, and you'll get the big effect out of it in months and years, not days and weeks. On that note, you might as well take longer, but at some point you'll get the hang of it.

Leo, great video man, super constructive. One thing: a smartphone works well as a timer when set to 'do not disturb' + an alarm. Put it under one leg on vibrate mode, and you're good to go - all other notifications except the alarm will be blocked. Set it up quickly by telling Siri or Iris: 'Do not disturb', followed by ' Wake me up in 30 minutes'. It's also ideal under the pillow for sleeping with earplugs :).

Big Leo, thanks again for another great video! Just a question before: I was meditating for 20 minutes every single day since the 1th of January of 2015 and I was getting amazing results from it. However last Monday I decided to start meditating for 30 minutes after I went through a breakup with my girl, as a form to be happier by myself. But actually what I found through this whole week was that I was getting a state of really calm and not getting excited about some stuffs that I really liked, like parting, drinking, socializing, exploring the field and so on. Then I started to put so much value in the relationship that I just went through a breakup, which was kind of frustrating. Therefore I saw that meditation was actually making my mind more mature and I decided to do something different, like increasing the time of meditation with the years. For example, right now I´m 21 and I´m thinking about to do 21 minutes section of meditation every single day. Increasing its time year by year until I get 30 years and keep it for the rest of life. I feel that I just wanna keep enjoying those kind of stuffs while I´m young and I don´t wanna get less excited about those things untill I get older and these stuffs are probably going to that place anyway. And at the same time I wanna get in that state of mind that I tasted for a week, which I was just performing a bit better in life, unhooking from addictions and getting better results at my week time. What do you think about it, man?? Thank you so much and sorry about some english mistakes, I´m Brazilian BTW. Mostrar menos

I really don't see a large difference between stage one and two. Whenever I observe my thoughts objectively, it seems that they go away. The way that I release thoughts is by not judging them, and not getting carried away with them. Perhaps this just means I have never actively release something before, or perhaps I am in a constant state of active release when I meditate (except for times when I do get carried away). Could you, Leo, or anyone else clarify this for me? thanks

This is what i’ve been dealing with, when i become aware of it or “watch my mind” It just disappears...and i’m just left there like okay, and it will go to another thought and maybe 3 seconds into the thought i’ll be like “okay, it’s here now” i won’t judge it, but it will go away. so ...idk, how to be aware of the transition of the the thought maybe?

When we are functioning normally in life, we focused on doing something, some other thoughts will pop out involuntary. But the thing is when we meditate (in the beginner level) all we do is focus on what is going on in our brains, therefore its hard to not "controll" what to think and how to think. So I'm confused at this part when meditating. but as always, good video Leo! thanks a million

Great video, thanks a lot. One thing to point out though. I'm not sure if it's wise to divide so strictly the meditation time and the 'other' time. Part of the meditation practice is to bring the mindset you have in the meditation session into everyday life. To bring the flow and non-stickiness of mind into your everyday conduct.

That is great ...if you get stuck at stage 2 try and say 123 no thought 4 and extend length of thought free time..... Great ideas dr b

Thank you so much bro, this video helped me a lot to do what is for me the best and unique meditation technique as it is the way to live in everyday life with our ego. I have already lot of experience in meditation but I needed a last little thing to grow to the next stage and your vid did that !! Now I live my life totally from the awareness watching my toughts and it is INCREDIBLE how I'm getting more and more happy !! The things that were shit for me to do are now ok and the things that are good are even better ! From now when I smoke marijuana it's not the same at all it's kind of amazing and I had the information from I think my awareness that the next step for me is psychedelic ego death experience with 2-cb which is my growing tool. Take care man love you :-)

Thank you for making this video! I was feeling a little lost in my meditations and this helped me to have a better idea of the work I have done so far. I have tried the three stages, and of course I have lots of work to do. What I have also realized is that sometimes (few times) I am "aware" while doing my regular chores of the day... does anyone relate?

I’ve been meditating daily for about a year and quite intensely. I seemed to have turned a corner this month and can fully detach and have some crazy experiences. A few times now I felt extreme euphoria. It’s amazing 💜

Hi, guys. I've been so lucky to be given the most profound awakening out of my extremely rational mind. It took a loop, so to speak, as my meta thoughts made it impossible that this was it. I gave up everything and there it came. Now I can only see the reason to live, to self actualize by reaching the higher states of consciousness. I am starting at the first stage to observe my mind and let it wander. Is it recommended that I watch all the meditation videos in this playlist, or shall I do this after my 3 months? I am asking this question in advance due to more occurrence of thoughts and distraction. Thank you for your kindness

Is it ok not to use a timer? I meditate a lot better without a timer as a timer reminds me of the amount of time I have been meditating thus making it more difficult to meditate. Without a timer I can meditate with some ease for 45+ mins.

decent video Leo, however I didn't get a lot of value- some of your advice comes from a negative frame and I've already surpassed most of the tips. I learned meditation using RSD Tyler's method which is simply to stare forward at a wall, just being present and letting thoughts roll by like leaves in the wind. I'm on my 10th month of 20mins a day and the impact on my clarity and emotions has been immense. I can barely relate to some people that used to be very close to me cause of their negativity/lack of patience and I'm a lot more centred now. However, my one problem atm is sometimes getting impatient and looking at my phone to see how much time I have left. I highly recommend meditation to anyone who wants to improve their life situation :)

very useful videos thanks for posting. do you think that there is a difference between meditating and relaxing each muscle and is part of the body one by one. if we are relaxing part of the body then relax this part followed by relax another other part is also a thought

Your video is very clear like always :D. the only comment i have is the fact u divide the different kinds of meditation in stages , like newbie to advanced. This is just a matter of subjective opinion. Like the newbie stage you discribe is shikantaza in zen practice and isnt considered newbie at all. There are not really advanced and beginner meditations. It is about discovering your true nature and the specific meditation that will lead u there is very different for differerent people.Just my humble opinion :D. Very good insights on the pitfalls, thanks for the vid and hope to see more of them. Greetz tris

You have to let your thoughts flow like water. Often a thought comes that disrupts the flow making us want to fight back causing tension within ourselves. We must acknowledge it as a thought that is only secondary to our well being and let it flow away

Yes, I think you are right; but let me explain it better: Sometimes there is some music running in my mind (usually that popular music with an repetitive patern, or maybe that one that have emocional content to me.) In the first level, it is easy to just let the music goes and observe it, but in the second level, I feel dificulty to make it go away. And I said it seems to be an background, becouse I can observe images and Ideas, even sounds while the music continues to run... Like it was totally independent of other thoths... In my latest experiments, however, In the level 3, I feel easyer to make it go, by just foccusing on the silence behind the sound... You think I am in the right direction? Maybe I should try to do the levels 1,2 and 3 in the order and time that you said, to observe better... that is the first time that I see this order... To me before, it was just isolate diferent técnics... PS: sorry for the "indian english" I AM still learning...
