MINDFULNESS MEDITATION(Notes): -Mindfulness is experiencing reality literally , exactly as it is. Three components of mindfulness- 1)Focus - Your ability to put your attention selectively on certain sensations within your awareness. 2)Sensory clarity - How clear are you about the raw data that's actually being perceived by your mind. 3)Equanimity - The ability to experience an emotion or a sensation or any phenomenon and not be affected by it , and not react to it in an emotional way -Do it in cycles (10 second cycles roughly). Three main modes through which you experience things - seeing(with your eyes), hearing(with your ears) and feeling(with your body). 1)Seeing-note(that its there),label('see'-the channel which you are looking through),savor(the colors and shapes, minus all judgements . and other facts - for 5-7 seconds). 2)Hearing-note(that there was/is a sound),label('hear'- the channel which you are hearing through),savor(through your short term memory of the sound, if it was short, otherwise savor the continuous sound - for 5-7 seconds). 3)Feeling-note(notice it : to notice is to put your attention on it , because your attention could be wandering all over the place),label ('feel'), savor(for 5-7 seconds , no one cares if you like the sensation or not , judgements don't matter here). -All above was INNER. (outer and inner are distinction we ourselves are making here , these are not existential or ''given to us by god'') -OUTER: 1)Inner seeing - through imagining (like a big red apple). 2)Inner hearing - through hearing the internal dialogue , like an earworm in your mind. 3)Inner feeling - feeling emotions like anger , excitement , happiness , loneliness course through your body (be careful that something like your heart beating is also an outer feeling , like bodily sensations discussed above). Run the note, label and savor cycle here too. -Smell and taste are outer feelings as well. -Really , we're only using three labels here - see , feel and hear , when you're labeling you're not gonna be concerned about whether its outer or inner , the labels are just gonna be those basic three. -How do you do this practice ? Set a timer for 20 minutes , and then whatever your mind finds , put it into focus and run a cycle on it (of about 10 seconds) , then you mind will find something , run a cycle on that then . Keep doing this for 20 minutes . If you mind wanders off in fantasies or stories in between , bring it right back. If you want to get a little bit more advanced here , you could limit the range of what you will let your mind focus on. The most basic practice is to allow the range to be everything , to be sights and sounds and feeling , outside or inside. More advanced is to for example to limit yourself to just sights or just sounds , or just feelings , or just the inner , or just the outer, or both the inner sounds and the outer sounds , or just thoughts (thoughts are inner sounds + inner images) , etc. The basic practice is really effective though , where you let loose , you don''t necessarily have to advance . -What do you do if 2 or more phenomenon come up simultaneously ? - Basically , act on the one which is the most salient , or anyone of your choice . Eg. Itch on your foot and the word 'Itch' on your mind come up simultaneously . -What happens if I'm observing a phenomenon and trying to run the cycle but the phenomenon disappears (example you're listening to a chirping bird , you're trying to savor but then the bird stops or flies away) ? - Just Notice that the bird/sound stopped , and savor the memory of it that you have. You can use a special label like 'gone' - notice the stopping , label 'gone' and you can then also savor the 'goneness'. -What happens if the phenomenon changes ? You can stay with the change , whatever the previous thing changed into , and just observe the fact that it changed. -If you don't know what a sensation or feeling is , can't exactly label it like if you're confused if it's fear or just a pain , no worries , you're allowed to guess and you don't need to be 100% accurate with your labeling , its even okay if you miscategorize something at first - over time you will get better and better and start having less doubts. -If a phenomenon is too short , you can work using it's short term memory . -You don't need to analyse your inner dialogue of labeling , like labeling 'hear' and then labeling that too , those labels are just tools . Keep it simple , put your attention on anything but the labels and everything but the process that you're using. -A Tip : Do this practice daily . For 20 minutes to begin with , then you might get to 30 and 60 . No excuses , no skipping any days . This is a practice that you do over the course of months and years. -A supercharge to your mindfulness will be a mindfulness retreat like a vipassana retreat. This can get you a lot of progress really quickly, like in a single week you can get as much progress as 20 minutes every day for 1 year. The ideal is that you should do both, a continuous practice and 1 or 2 retreats a year.

10 minutes? Ill talk 20 minutes straight while teaching patients about self treatmet techniques 5 to 10 times a day (and I'm an introvert lol). Ten minutes really is nothing. You may want to practice that, develop that skill. Good on you for trying and recognizing that weakness. Few people even make it that far.

It’s a teacher thing. My wife is a teacher and she can go on and on forever, trust me. But yes it’s an impressive skill; also an impressive skill is being able to switch it off, which she is pretty good at too. Musicians can do it with music and I think most people can do that communicative thing In some creative way.

Ever since I started watching your videos about 5-6 months ago my perspectives have made a realistic turn. I didn't see much worth in life before this, for that I thank you. Some of the things I've learned and places I've found are indescribable. I now have a palpable sense of how beautiful and mysterious this reality is. Meditation has shown me this. However this has also been a double edged sword. My family, friends, and surrounding acquaintances know not an inkling of this information. It's harder for me to cope with being around them. It almost feels as if anchors have been placed on me. Regardless of that, the value of this information is boundless. It honestly baffles me that you're doing this for free. These are quality, life changing, insightful videos that are being presented. If you don't already I encourage all of you approach these subjects with seriousness. Take notes and IMPLEMENT the thing's being presented. The fact that you're engaging in this sort of lectured content proves that you strive for something deeper. If not at least curious. I hope one day I can do my part in helping push humanity forward. Imagine an entire society of self disciplined, actualized individuals. Thank you for your work here Leo.

Actualized.org Hello sir I m 29 year old male, My major problem is i have phobia of bedwetting but actually i don't wet the bed, but i m in terrible fear that i would wet any day... Since childhood i was not a regular bedwetter....I used to wet once in a month.....Gradually my bedwetting frequency got reduced and by the age of 14 i completely got rid of bedwetting.....But when i was 18 once i got urine dream and i woke up half of the dream finding my bed wet....I don't even know y it happened...I started finding the reasons...I actually didn't take much fluid intake, i was not stressed, i didn't have fear, weather was not cold, but it just happened. From that day i didn't bother much but started counting the days upto 5 yrs and then i started forgetting about that as i never wetted the bed again.....But after that i referred some blogs about enuresis.....I found many people wetting after many years...This made me worry a lot that i would wet the bed someday.....In some of the blogs it was given that alcohol n caffeine could also make us to wet the bed....I tried that too but even when i was drunk i never wetted the bed....I even got many urine dreams after that incident but i never wetted.... I stayed with dry nights for 10 years but still i have fear that i would wet some day.... I even got some bladder tests from urologists and it was found everything was completely normal... I can sustain urine for hours together during daytime n i have good bladder control But i am not able to come out of this phobia because i am not able to find exact reason y i wetted that day.... In an year or two i might get married but my phobia has got worsened as i have to share bed with someone....if u say that performing KEGELS or pelvic floor excercise i would never wet the bed I'll stop worrying now itself....So please give me suggestions to come out of this fear....Due to this phobia i am not able to do any work...I am completely depressed just because of this phobia can i overcome this phobia by mindfulness meditation or do i need pychiatrist counselling? Please answer me Ur answer will definitely change my life

You probably can by focusing on that sensation of fear. There is also another method to fight it in your dream. I found out that this meditation of mindfulness helps with dream consciousness, and when you confront your fears, you will finally stop being afraid.

I've been doing this for 3 months straight and the effects are really starting to snow ball. If you go outside and practice mindfulness, nature itself becomes an orchestral masterpiece if you focus hard enough. When you stop thinking it's so much easier to create music or any other creative endeavor you may pursue in life. These videos are so powerful when you put even just half of the ideas to practice. Get outside and start meditating folks!

Thanks for posting this. Its inspired me to meditate again. I've actually experienced what the I is very briefly and twice. Both were almost a moment of profoundness. The first was perhaps more cerebral but the next one was a vision in my mind of light. It was the moment of being above and beyond thought. In trying to explain this to others I couldn't describe that light as "I" and I also couldn't identify it as a thing yet it was an experience. Ever since I haven't meditated again but have been reading philosophy and studies about things around it. I see the benefits of experiencing than just reading. I'll have to get back into it and continue practising. Thanks again!

Leo, Thank you for this video. Nice I think, the energy you put in it I mean . If you are ever in Spain, area Málaga, just sent a message, and we´ll might have the opportunity to prepare dinner for you . After meditation since 2008 I have something to add to your information : Meditation 20 min. per day is a great start. Later, if you integrate meditation in your activities/daily routine or whatever you want to call it, you will see that these following activities will also help to have a ( more ) quiet mind, body. - clean your kitchen every day - do Aikido , Yoga , or Walk a lot -depends on the job you have and your fysical possibilities- , anyway we all know that moving is super important and possibly we´ll reach a more relaxed deeper sleep - have peace in conversations , think in win-win, so you serve this person and this person serves you. In case of disagreement , try to end the conversation in a nice way, maybe not with solution. It is important to have respect for yourself and the other. - check your breath during the day ´Am I breathing in a balanced, relaxed, natural, way?´. And if it is busy, maybe in your job, than give yourself a break, even if it is on the toilet , and take a ´breath - moment- for yourself. - and . . . I think meditation is fun to do. . . making ´mistakes´, or whatever word that comes close to ´incomplete situations´ and making it better and don´t repeat those ´mistakes´, making other ´mistakes´ and making it better...better in a way talking about behavior... LIVE !!!!! LOVE !!!! Monique

I found out that the key to doing yoga or meditation you have to realy love it and feel the benefits, that's how you don't drop the habit. "staying disciplined" brings stress and not wanting to do it. I like this chanel as much as I like infinite waters. You too give me two sides of actualization. Leo side is a very serous and full of information but infinite waters gives joy and pleasure. Love you both. I am a bit of a perfectionist that's why I need a bit more simplicity to calm me down and motivate me.

Leo, using your method, I use the distractions that always pop up in meditation as objects of meditation itself! I just finished a 25 minute sit, and started with attention on the breath. Focus on the sensation the breath gives. Then as "distractions" arise, I shift awareness as per your technique to the stimuli, label and savor for what seems like 10 seconds. Then I shift my attention back to the breath until a new "distraction". Is that doing it right? As I was meditating, I noticed that thoughts become less and less frequent. I felt as if I was falling into myself if that makes sense. Also a warm feeling spread throughout my body. I also used these sensations as objects of meditation. I could not help but notice that my emotional state went from being sad and depressed, to calm and tranquil! Thanks for your time and effort teaching us how to realize our true selves!

leo i'm so thankful that you exist and put up these videos q__q at the beginning of this year i had a really bad meltdown because of stress and anxiety about college and getting a job and overthinking my entire life basically and it left me feeling super depressed and i'd feel like i wasn't real and i'd just randomly cry for no reason everyday and then i found your videos because i was so desperate to find a solution to feel like myself again and you just help me more and more everyday i've been meditating and within like such a short time i've become wiser and happier and calmer than most (i might even say all) people in my life and it was all because you introduced these concepts to me!! sometimes the depressed feelings come back and little and i just watch some of your videos to remind myself that i have the power to change it. so thank you so much!!!

Great, great video! Although what I'd add, especially for beginners, is that maybe start of with 5 minutes. Aiming for 20 minutes from the get go may be a bit much for some. This may create an aversion to meditation during the initial stages which may lead to quitting meditation all together early on. Just my two cents.

I've just done it for about 15 minutes and holy shit. Don't remember the last time when things felt this real. I've been meditating daily with concentration on breath, but never felt like those benefits are lasting through the day (at least I didn't feel like I'm cutting through the resistances I have). With focusing on "seeing" for instance I've been able to see things in the real world with not so much haze and mental interpretation and resistance, which I haven't experienced for YEARS. It felt very exciting and funny at the same time, at just how beautiful and mysterious life really easy. When I looked out the window I did not have mental interpretation and so for the first time I truly understood what people mean by "only the Now exists". Even if it was just a small glimpse it still felt beautiful and motivating me for more. I'm gonna start practicing this daily

Hi Leo. I hope you get a chance to read this. A short sincere THANK YOU for educating so many of us. You reflect a profound understanding in such a digestible manner. Just a small tweak on mindfulness that, interestingly, occurred naturally after I started practising applying it daily. I was observing my negative reaction and found it difficult to detach enough for it to have a meaningful effect. I needed a shortcut in my early, inexperienced days of mindfulness. This may sound strange, but whatever. I imagined a wild cat with an expressive demeanour. It represented my emotions. It was in a neutral room with me. The cat's anxious pacing, flat ears and tail expressed everything I was feeling. It growled at me in desperation and was basically just begging for validation and acceptance. I sat on a bench in the room, calm and accepting, just watching it and not judging. It calmed down and I regrouped. This imaginative animal scenario has become second nature and it works so well. It all started with your videos and I am truly excited to share it with you. Thank you for changing my life.
