@@melroyel2235 Using notes (or even a full manuscript) is in no way contradictory to preaching "from the heart." To believe it is is to deny the work of the Spirit in the pastor's study.

One person speaking is not a debate. When you’re preaching/ teaching, it is def ok to have notes. When you’re reading the notes word for word, then that’s a different topic.

My grandfather had notes. He would reference them at the beginning of the sermon but as the spirit lead him, and as he began to stood on one leg ( his signature), he wouldn’t use them at all.

Jonathan Edwards started revival with his preaching and he preached from a full manuscript. He in fact even read it sometimes. To insinuate that God can only use preaching that was without notes is man-centered preaching, and not Word centered. Power-houses of the faith from the past have used notes in their preaching. Manny Arango you need to repent of your Pharisaical legalism.

This is a really big oversimplification! I think all this depends the preachers style. I definitely take a full manuscript to the pulpit; however I am not tied to it like I’m reading a book. It does allow me to stay on task and be sure to give my scriptural references. By the way, presenting God’s Word to the people is not akin to a debate, it is proclamation of His truths! God bless

No shade man, But there are several fallacies in your argument here. Sure, no one uses notes for random interpersonal debates but in organized debates people do use notes. Sermons shouldn't be random thoughts but organized arguments. Some people use notes to help them communicate their arguments better and some people don't need to. There also are plenty of preachers who should but don't lol. It's all up to that individual. One of the best preachers in the world is William Curtis and he uses a manuscript.

You can absolutely PREACH without notes. However TEACHING while PREACHING demands and requires the intentional gravitas associated with a written manuscript. Homectical prowess should never trump Hermeneutical integrity. Take notes during your sermon prep and read them out loud.
