Im trying to replace my thermostat housing on a x166 gls63. The trick to remove the radiator and the power steering pump pulley out of the way is a game changer! Excellent video 👏 engine layout is similar to the m157 amg V8s

I know this was a year ago but.. did you vacuum fill the coolant? Or how did you fill the coolant and burp the system from air pockets?

Just burped it like any normal car with the cap off while running till the air was gone and levels stayed the same

I never torque anything I just tighten hand tight till I feel it’s good.

That pump is for the Active Curve system which is a hydraulic system that provides pressure for the active stabilizer bar system. It's a cool system.

Very good video. Thanks a lot. I have e550 M278. I removed fan but couldn't slide it back. Any help would be appreciated. I can I put it back? It basically doesn't fit :(

I know the cooler lines on passenger side have to be unhooked to get fan to come out

That fan basically doesn't fit, but it actually does. Try it at an angle it is best if you remove those other lines that are in the way but it's not absolutely necessary if you angle it in there and gently push the other ones out of the way you can get it in there without removing any other stuff but it can truly be a pain and will test your patience good luck.

How long does these radiators last? Around what mileage do they need to replace? My 2013 ml63 has around 103k

I honestly have no clue at all. I’ve never heard of a radiator going bad unless it gets damaged. I also don’t know life span expected of the water pump.

I had to replace mine on a 2013 GL450 in 2024 at 160k miles

Wow that's a pretty good mileage for these radiators most of these radiators last about 60 to 80,000 miles on the Mercedes GL series however if the engine overheats at all it'll almost surely be the end of your radiator it expands and starts to leak from the ends where the seal from the plastic to the aluminum is. If you really plan to keep your car and keep maintaining it I highly recommend getting a custom radiator made from a reputable shop it won't cost very much more than the regular Mercedes one and it'll last forever as well as keep your engine considerably cooler thereby cutting down on the maintenance required for all the other items surrounding the engine including all the plastic connections and hoses and such.
