This is my favourite channel, I watch every video, thank you : ) Of all the mastering courses offered, do you have any recommendations? Do you feel these video's cover most of what you need or more in depth training is required?
@sageaudio3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Ashley! Great to hear you've been enjoying the channel! I haven't tried any to be honest, so I wouldn't be able to give a recommendation unfortunately. Our videos do cover a lot, but I always think the best thing you can do is master as much music as possible to train you ear. Once your ear is trained, and you understand what your gear is doing, you should be able to master music well! SageAudio.com

Amazing tutorials, thank you so much for sharing the knowledge. When you use the Pro Q on the bus and high pass the sides, do you keep it on zero latency mode or do you think is better to change to Linear Phase mode? Thanks

good video, but guys: if you compress more the mid channel, you're enhancing the MONO signal. Otherwise if you compress more the side signal you're enhancing the STEREO width and NOT the opposite, since there's dynamic gain reduction and so an higher perceived loudness (Regarding a gain compensation).
@sageaudio3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Edoardo! What you've described doesn't seem to be the case. If you compress the mid image you'll notice the sides become louder by comparison - resulting in a wider image. SageAudio.com
@edoardomenta67033 жыл бұрын
@@sageaudio ok. Try to put a Stereo Imager after and (obviously) gain compensate the compressed mid/side signal.

Can you tell us this? If in ozone 5 dynamic, i use the gate and make its ratio (1:2) :1:0 ,... Is this upward compression or expansion? And if I use compression ratio same... Which is what???? And which is better??? I have experiment with both... Both gets the sound below the threshold upwards...

@sageaudio3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Shivjay! I've always found this part of Ozone a little convoluted too. This is expansion but not upward compression. Upward compression is isolated quieter signals, compressed them, and then amplifies that compressed signal. The best way to understand it is to look at the manual for the Waves MV2 - they have a good illustration of it. SageAudio.com
@shivjayvolvloikar3 жыл бұрын
@@sageaudio so.. If we use gate to expand first and then what if we compress with the compressor..?
@shivjayvolvloikar3 жыл бұрын
Also sir... What if I do the same thing.... That is (1:2) :1 in compressor.... Not in gate *in ozone dynamic 5*

Man, i want to do mid side on vocals. But the prblm is they are recorded in mono. How on earth is it possible to do mid side??
@sageaudio3 жыл бұрын
You can! Duplicate the mono vocal, and invert the phase of either the right or left channel in the duplicated track (you can typically do this with a utility plugin, like Gain in Logic Pro X). The original track is your mid, the one with the phase inverted channel will be your side. SageAudio.com

nice tips sage as always, but one should point out that the more a signal is split and then re assembled the more detrimental it is for the signal. i see that m/s and multiband processing is wayyy too overused in todays engineering probably because of poor production choices and audio fundamentals understanding from producers/mixers. m/s is rarely used here and if it can be avoided, it will be
@sageaudio3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching John! This can be true if the summing isn't correct - you'll get phase cancellation for sure. I'll have to do some tests and see if any of these plugins sum the signal in a way that causes these issues! SageAudio.com

cutting low-end in the sides will increase the width of the song but also introduce phase problems in those frequencies and the song will feel weak and much less impactful. I do not recomend doing that. If you're processing the low end then make sure you're doing it in stereo, not m/s.
@RainCityMusic075 ай бұрын
Its so weird I keep hearing everyone saying to compress the sides more than the mids to create stereo width and that makes 0 sense to me.
@sageaudio5 ай бұрын
Hmm yeah that's weird. Maybe they mean, compress and then use make up gain to bring up the quieter details of the side image. Who knows!
