These frames not only are they simple to make but they look great too. I have seen the video of the one with the painted hardboard for the kids to paint many times. Great idea.

Great Video. Thanks for the inspiration. After this video I made a couple of frames out of old barnboard I had laying around. One suggestion though. Put the nails only in the top and bottom. You can see the ones on the sides quite easily, but no one looks at the top or bottom of a frame.

That's some beautiful lumber. I nail the miters up the way you do, but of course you being in the picture frame business I'm sure you have done that thousands of times. I don't do face book Jon.

Great work I want to make my own frames but I'm finding it hard to get my mitre saw to cut mitres accurately,it's a cheaper saw,did your hitachi take much setting up or was it good to go out of the box?
@christschool9 жыл бұрын
Jon, why do you not use a Riving knife on your TS? I'm not being a safety nanny, just curious if it has advantages when cutting by removing the knife. I don't have your skills to remove the knife, but I still would like to know if there are advantages of going knifeless. Thanks in advance.
@stevesteves89159 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I enjoyed that - I don't think you ever quite answered the questions you had about getting a good 45 angle - I know the sacrificial fence gives a nice clean cut, but did your miter saw give a 45 straight out of the box or did you calibrate it yourself? Also when I make frames, I make 2 half frames and then put them together (guess it comes out the same!)

Hi Mr. Peters! Great Friday video!! Quick question, would you or have you ever consider making a jig that would hold the frame pieces while you nail them? Would you make a jig for that in the near future? Thanks for sharing another cool video! By the way, wanted to say thank you for inspiring me...I've recently completed my fireplace mantel which holds my tv and also the DVD and cable box...not sure if I would have done it without all your woodworking tips....Thanks again!

Oh Jon! I was praying for your finger everytime you shot a nail in the frame. Thank goodness the wood was knotless. That would've hurt my finger to see a nail curve into yours!
@brukernavnfettsjit9 жыл бұрын
nicholas carter I thought it looked very risky too. Whenever I use my nail gun they pop out everywhere! I even had one curve like a U and shoot back on me when nailing wall sheets to studs.

For nails and metals, you could use a cheapo metal detector to scan them ahead of time. I found one on Craigs for $15 and it works great for that purpose.

If you start to get a lot of similar content on different subjects, it wouldn't be a bad thing to have multiple channels to post them under. I've seen a number of YT authors that do this now. You could even cross reference them in your videos to drive traffic either way by saying something like: if you'd like to know more about X see my other channel Y for that and other projects (and add a link to your video of course).

@CameraEd19 жыл бұрын
So, not to nit-pick or armchair design... but, wouldn't it be snazzy if you only put the nails in the top of the top rail and the bottom of the bottom rail in both sides. That way, when the frame is hung on the wall at eye level the nails would not show. Assuming you are going to vanish the Fir. Is there a structural reason to do it the other way? Also, I think your channel could hold the extra videos if you want, the name "Jon Peters Art & Home" covers a lot. But if they are solely to promote the channel, well, we are already watching, so maybe a facebook audience is best.
