Some good minerals you want to add to your diet, is Irish Sea Moss which is great for body, bones & teeth, it has 92% minerals, out of a 102 minerals which is needed for the body. Himalayan pink salt, has 70-80% of minerals & Shilajit resin or powder, has 84% mineral content. Also, dried out organic brown eggshells grounded up has 95% calcium which is good for bones & teeth, use in smoothies, oatmeal, soups, bone broth etc. Should be taken with 100% vitamin C for better absorption. Thank you for the information, Dr. Phillips. I floss EVERY day religiously as I have had some negative experiences in the past with bad breath. Even though I was brushing my teeth and using mouthwash every day, I was still experiencing bad breath until one day I realized that the only thing that seems to stop it is flossing, after brushing with toothpaste. It seems to remove coffee residue and bacteria from in between my teeth and keeps my breath under control. I love your videos and agree with you on a lot of things you say such as regarding using xylitol, not constantly eating and drinking, and encouraging ideal pH of the mouth before bed among other things. I am an alcoholic, or "semi-alcoholic" as I prefer to say, and sip on beer for at least 7 hours each night before going to bed. Please tell me how I can keep my bad breath at bay without flossing. Does oil pulling work? Do you recommend oil pulling with healthy oils such as sesame oil or coconut oil? And does oil pulling with these oils damage teeth or gums or hinder the development of the biofilm? Thank you, Rock Loft

Oil pulling works. When I'm consistent with it, my teeth are whiter and less sensitive, and my gums do not inflame. My immunity also gets better. There are two sources of bad breath: one is from the mouth and one is from the stomach. Ideally we shouldn't be drinking anything for 2-3 hours before bedtime, especially fizzy drinks or large amounts as this contributes to acids rising up from the stomach when we lay flat and that will cause all sorts of gastro problems including bad breath. I know that from experience, but I have researched it for solutions. For example, I can't have large tea before bed or I will have this problem. You can research more about this. I hope this helps.

Very informative! There are these xylitol discs you can find on the market which adhere to the sides of gums and keep the saliva flowing and alkaline at night. They are very helpful for those of us who get dry mouth at night. Your mouth rinses are great but I still get that dang dry mouth despite taping it shut! Maybe your company can make some of those discs - I would buy them!
@dr.elliephillips
@dr.elliephillips Жыл бұрын
I recommend taking a few Zellie's mints during the night. I prefer this to the adhesive discs. Try to limit drinking water - or at least have some xylitol after any drink. The dryness will improve once you start to develop a healthy protective biofilm. Do you limit your dental cleanings? That would also be a suggestion. drEllie.com for more information.

Hypothetically speaking, couldn't the biofilm also prevent re-mineralization of the teeth? Couldn't we then remove all biofilm from a cavity site, then inject mineralization mixture similar to saliva and then cover the cavity/tooth so nothing gets into it for several weeks? Wouldn't that help reverse cavities without drilling and filling?

She talked about that in her other video. Your enamel is getting thin and you need to remineralize your teeth with your saliva. Stop slipping water/liquid often because that would dilute your saliva's mineral content. Just take 1 xylitol mint after each meal and don't eat/drink again for at least 1-2 hours.

@@adamjames3920 Above in the other comments on this video, Dr. Ellie responded with a really detailed answer where someone else asked about this toothpaste, so I'll copy in her response here: "If you are looking for a natural solution to re-mineralize your teeth, then your own saliva is your best solution! Simply give your teeth and mouth more time to interact with your saliva (which is a solution supersaturated with the same minerals as are touted in this NHA toothpaste). Your saliva/spit is free and we know that it is safe to swallow :). In fact, studies show that nanohydroxyapatite forms a coating on the outside of teeth, and does not penetrate to truly heal defects in teeth (whereas the minerals from saliva do go into the tooth and repair any that are lost). The European Safely commission has not approved NHA as safe yet - and they have been asked to approve this toothpaste for years. I believe that NHA is the latest of a slew of "professionally" recommended products - There was MI paste, Pro-Enamel, Triclosan, Prevident, and Charcoal...and other things that were all the result of focused marketing to dental offices. I have never recommended any of these products because I am a sales person for our own free naturally produced saliva. I do not recommended NHA. As for fluoride fears , this topic is complicated, but both fluoride and NHA are basically "band-aids" to help fix dental problems after they have occurred. I am more interested in balancing the underlying problems that cause cavities and gum damage and disease. This not only stops the progression, but it will cause repair and regeneration that continues - now and for the rest of your life!"
@Justinian21c
@Justinian21c 7 ай бұрын
@dr.elliephillips What are your rational reasons for rejecting medical hydroxyapatite? Nano Hydroxyapatite is safe, non-toxic unlike fluoride, has been shown in studies to be just as effective as fluoride in remineralizing, and hydroxyapatite is a natural component of the body.
@SunrayStar

The Euro Safety comm has not approved NHA as safe yet - and they have been asked to approve this toothpaste for years. It is basically a band-aid to help fix dental problems after they have occurred. @dr.elliephillips
@dr.elliephillips Жыл бұрын
The damage is there as you can see in the form of discoloration and cavities. But oral health is dynamic - meaning it is like a teeter-totter. We have the power to balance our oral health and move it away from the side of damage (don't just keep doing what you are doing). Also we can tip the balance in the other direction (use my Complete Mouth Care System and xylitol to change the conditions in your mouth). There are many things that may be happening - including possible gum recession - why is this happening? Have you been using baking soda? Drinking sparkling water? So many reasons and you need to figure out why. Why are you getting cavities? I suggest you learn more about cavities. My website drellie.com/ has an oral health (video) bootcamp which may be helpful to you. Or just get started on the system I recommend and you should see positive results in 3-6 months - to help you know you are doing things right :)

Hello dr Philips, is it possible to remineralize deep fissures in the teeth. My dentist is recommending sealants for my deep grooves/fissures and a small crack in my tooth. Can xylitol rebuild my enamel?
@dr.elliephillips
@dr.elliephillips Жыл бұрын
To decide what to do: first consider the downside of having a sealant. Sealants are plastic (and contain some kind of BPA or a derivative). If you are a woman and have any concern about estrogen mimicking hormones ( for example if you have a history of breast cancer in your family) -then, avoiding plastic in your mouth would be a positive thing. The second thing to consider is that if your dentist is concerned about harmful, cavity-forming bacteria entering these grooves - the same bacteria will be everywhere in your mouth and entering EVERY groove, pit and fissure. In other words, if you have a mouth full of dangerous cavity bacteria - do something to improve the overall health of your mouth (using my xylitol strategies and my Complete Mouth Care System) rather than try to block a couple of grooves in one tooth. At the very least, improve the health of your mouth for 6-9 months and then, if he continues to make these recommendations and you agree, have a sealant done then. Your mouth will then be healthy and the new sealant should last you a lifetime. Without this change, a sealant will likely protect you from this "attack" for about 7-10 years and then you will need a filling, and then in 7-10 years a filling repair, then a crown, root canal and so forth. Change the health of your mouth now and you may never need any more treatments!

There’s one tooth that has a deep fissure/groove that sometimes feels sensitivity, X-ray shows no cavities but dentist wants me to fill it because he says there’s “stickiness”. I honestly think it’s just the probe getting stuck in the groove because he is always saying I have a cavity here and there but when I come the next time it’s not there, suspicious. I eat remineralizing foods and take care of my oral health, and I am against getting a sealant for all the reasons you mentioned so I’ll continue with the system, pray, and see how my next appointment goes! Thank you!

@@rzlk6647 Cavities occur when a tooth becomes soft and weakened by acids from cavity-forming bacteria. OK - for a time this area may be "sticky" but a white filling ( which is basically a plastic glue) is not match for the minerals which can strengthen this area naturally. A deep groove takes at least 12-18 months to fully mineralize, and sticking a probe into newly re-crystallizing mineral structure will put you back to the start! Personally, I would not return to this dentist for at least a year - giving this groove adequate time to re-mineralize without this interruption. Be sure that you keep drinks to meals and end meals with xylitol. Then DO NOT eat or drink ANYTHING for an hour afterward, allowing time for this tooth to mineralize after every meal.

I do not recommend this mouth rinse. This Toms rinse has an acidic pH, contains glycerin, and the only redeeming feature perhaps is that it contains some xylitol :) I do not suggest xylitol toothpaste or mouth rinses generally. I suggest a sequence of mouth rinses that work in synergy with daily use of xylitol. You will find all the details about this strategy on my website at DrEllie.com. You can find a free downloadable booklet and lots of other information about how this amazing system works. I hope you will try this because it is what you are looking for......an amazingly healthy mouth. The products may be a surprise because they are inexpensive and not fancy in any way, but they work in harmony with each other. @dr.elliephillips Is there anything specific that you recommend for removing the brownish surface stains and yellow color caused by drinking tea and coffee?? I haven’t been on your Complete mouth care system (following it exactly to the letter as you recommend!) long enough to see any major difference in appearance. Years ago, the dentist used a water pressure wash device called a Cavitron to clean my teeth, and I was surprised how much of the coffee and tea stains washed off. Although, after decades of tea and coffee, my teeth are more yellow than I’d like. I’ve moved and switched dentists, and they only polish and scrape the teeth (which I hate.) so I don’t get cleanings very often. I have very little tartar but I drink too 2 large cups of coffee a day, as well as a cup or 2 of tea. I’m confident that remaining on your system will eliminate the need for dental cleanings, but are the teeth permanently dyed from the coffee and tea?

I have bought the tooth paste, the brush and the rinses. I am having a hard time ignoring brushing my teeth where the gums have thinned and recessed. Plaque has built up there during the day. Are you saying that I never have to work at brushing that away-- that the mouth rinse, and brushing with the Crest ABOVE AND BELOW my gums (without contacting the tooth area with the plaque) will somehow just rinse that away? You mentioned that the skin on the soles of our feet will thicken and toughen from walking, and the same principle with massaging the gums will thicken and regrow them. BUT, GUM TISSUE IS ENTIRELY DIFFERENT I am so confused. I am really trying to understand. Please clarify.
@SunrayStar
@SunrayStar 2 ай бұрын
The Complete Mouth Care System will cause plaque/tartar buildup to gradually fade away, but it is still mandatory to brush the gums firmly, and to also give a final brushing to the teeth. Brushing the gums with a medium-firm toothbrush with dense bristles (like Dr. Plotka's Mouthwatchers toothbrush) will stimulate the lymphatic system and bring fresh blood flow in which will help heal the gums. Even if your gums are thinned and recessed, it is especially important to spend time brushing the gums.

@@vanessac1965 No, this is not correct. I read an explanation Dr. Ellie wrote elsewhere about this. She said that adding it to water is not nearly as good because it dilutes the xylitol, and adding it to tea or coffee won't really do a lot for you. It needs to be put in the mouth alone, with nothing else. A bag of xylitol powder will work GREAT! You use about 1/4 teaspoon of it each time; just put the 1/4 teaspoon of plain xylitol granules right in your mouth; it will instantly "melt" and liquify with your saliva, so you can then swish it around in your mouth for 2-5 minutes before swallowing it. As a mother of five and a grandma of eight - and as a US Pediatric Specialist - I will tell you NOT to hold your child down to brush his teeth. Brushing a baby' or toddler's teeth is not that important - but xylitol is. I would also look for a second opinion about removing those teeth - they probably have decay - but if it were in my office, we would leave them alone. I suggest you focus on getting his mouth healthy as the #1 concern - and xylitol is better than brushing and better than worrying about the look of his teeth. The ATR technique is short for ATRAUMATIC RESTORATIVE TECHNIQUE - and it is taught in a few dental schools - but not many. With ART a dentist will do as little treatment as possible - just simply allow the child to get older before any extractions or decisions about treatment. Has your dentist talked with you about Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF)? Basically you can paint SDF on decay and stop it. It should cost less than $25 per tooth and be a great solution for now. The teeth darken - look at pictures online and see if that could work for you. You won't reverse damage in baby teeth - but you can stop it in its tracks with xylitol. You can go to Zellies.com where the blog has a lot of information about how to use xylitol for the care of baby teeth. Here is a.link: zellies.com/blogs/news I hope this is helpful to you. Use xylitol on your kids brush and don't worry about brushing so much.......this is a disease and xylitol will deal with it....promise :)

I believe it is always beneficial to improve your oral health. Reversing a cavity/hole in a tooth is about allowing more minerals to go into your tooth each day than exit from your tooth. This means using strategies that promote mineralization and reduce de-mineralization ( or mineral loss). When these two things are out of balance - that when you get a hole in your tooth. The strategies I recommend are eating and drinking at mealtimes only, ending with Zellies mints/xylitol and then do not eat or drink anything for 1-2 hours afterward. (Not even sipping water). This will allow your teeth to harden and this may allow that hole in your tooth to reverse. My Complete Mouth Care System of mouth rinses can speed up this process and make things happen more quickly. Details at drellie.com/. Are you in the US - because it may be more difficult to find the correct products in some other countries.

@@chrislastnam6822 When it comes to drinking water , people have lots of opinions -LOL! Enzymes are important for digestion - and if you have symptoms of acid reflux, it may be best to drink water during the meal and at the end, rather than prior to eating. I follow the nutritional guidance of Dr. William Li - and have found his advice not only effective but science-based and updated, in every way. Dr. Li suggests in his book Eat to Beat your Diet - to drink water with meals for a variety of positive health reasons. Usually, when we are in situations like this where there are counter viewpoints, my suggestion is to try things and experiment for yourself. Perhaps try drinking a relatively small amount of water, during and at the end of meals, and see if you notice benefits. Even if you don't drink water at meals, follow the same dental rules and stop eating and drinking for an hour after meals. Then drink water in one "dose" and have some xylitol / Zellies mints afterward - then stop eating and drinking until your next meal. I believe that it is the constant sipping of water, just as much as constant nibbling of food, that upsets both our digestive and oral health - so why not give this a try?
